New pool in Jersey...they're here!

KaiBee! NO worries about any post of any length. This is YOUR thread. Post as much as you need to to help keep yourself sane! I SO understand how frustrated you must be feeling! Here is this wonderful thing you are having done and TRYING to pay someone for and they are not doing THEIR part!!! GURRRRRRRRR to the max!!!! Just keep it G-rated and we are all good!

I think there is a twinge of sarcasm here with all these "pool people" with contractors. TFP people are really supportive of us complaining about it. I think some of them actually like it! :) So if you think you have a long explanation, look at my threads. I actually want to do a detailed thread so people considering this "adventure" get a accurate representation of it.

I won't go as far as my PB "sucks" (the work has been very good quality so far).. but I've pretty much figured that I am on the every other Friday schedule with their subs.. One day of work, two weeks of wait.. wash rinse, repeat.. It's amazing how a 1 month job can be made into a 7 month one, eh?

I am on a 9/80 schedule myself, but the Fridays so far have been the wrong ones! :(

It is so frustrating! I still have some loose ends with my PB, and I haven't yet had the strength to send out another ping. I promise you though that soon this really will all be a distant memory! It's hard even to imagine all the weeks I spent tiptoeing through the mud or walking along the pool coping while doing the pool chores (omg, what if I had just let the water fester like they told me to?!). Hang in there! And stay strong: it's worth getting what you want. It's all worth it!

What is a 9/80 schedule? Scheduled completion September 2080?
Oh.. sorry.. that is a work schedule for many of us technical types where your normal day is 9 hours a day, 4 days on the first week-- with the 5th day, Friday being an 8 hour day and then 9 hours a day on the second week for 4 days... 80 hours in 9 days instead of then. Then you get the second Friday off....most of the time....In theory :)

I've seemed to have everything hit on my work Fridays only so far....

It only feels like the completion will be September 2080 at this point...

Thanks for the support and encouraging words! I got a phone call from the mason today that they will prep for concrete on Saturday but they didn't do the schedule yet so she doesn't know when ther pour will be. So I'm going to say it will be on Thursday or Friday and hopefully it will be Monday or Tuesday. The electrician texted me that they will do the job after concrete so I asked to be given a date. Nothing yet. I'll call tomorrow every hour until she answers to tell me they have to wait for the permit that she supposedly expedited.

But a couple of my friends came over with their kids today so all was not lost.

They put the concrete forms down yesterday. The guy in charge said that he'll probably be back Monday. That would be nice because it's only going to be in the mid 70s for the next 2 days so to have a deck by Wednesday when it heats back up...

I had to turn the pump up to 3000 yesterday to get the vacuum to work and when I did there was dirt coming out of the returns! Into my nice clear water!!!? After having a mild freak out, I just left the pump on 2500 for 4 hours with my fingers crossed. Did a test before bed and once again this morning. Everything seemed fine and water looks good. Don't know if it did anything but testing made me feel better so...??‍♀️
Last thing.. I have been increasing the pressure on my pump almost daily because it keeps saying no flow to swcg. It is now at 1900 in order to keep the flow open. I looked inside the (pump?) and there are some leaves in there. Could this be the cause?

I can’t explain the dirt coming back in! But when was the last time you backwashed? With all the dirt around your pool I’d guess your filter is doing a lot of work... a dirty filter will mean your flow is lower than it should be.

Your pump basket doesn’t look bad to me...mine was a lot worse a few weekends ago after a pool party and freshly cut grass! My filter was also gross but I didn’t know because my pressure gauge is broken.

It is EASY! The main thing to think about is where does the water go from the filter? It is hard piped to go over there? Does it need a big hose you have to attach to send the water over there?

Make sure the pump is OFF before you turn the handle!!!

Turn the handle in only one direction. This helps save the gasket under it.

Make sure to turn to rinse after backwash. (making sure pump is off).

Turn pump off again and turn to filter. Make a note and share what the pressure is now.

Ok so I didnt realize that I needed a hose for backwashing. I ordered the gorilla one from Amazon. Is it not recommended to backwash without the hose? Especially with it pointing at my shed? Really wanted to do this today.

Won't hurt any pool equipment to backwash without a hose but only you can tell where all that backwash water will go....probably somewhere between 20 and 50 gallons.......depending on how much debris you have accumulated in your filter.

Stopped by the pb office today to ask about a hose and hooking up the heater and he said he would send someone over today to do it. This was at 12. It's now 445 and they haven't come yet. I also received my first ever phone call from them. It was about my next payment. They have been very lax on collecting money so far, which I guess is a good thing since they're so far behind. I will pay them what I owe because we took out a loan for a portion and they wont release any money to them until we send pics that we are done. So that's 10k that will be held until we give the go ahead to release it.
We are still waiting on a date for concrete even though they laid forms on Saturday and a date for electrical. She won't schedule it until the permits come back and I am very close to telling her to forget it. I can hire someone afterwards since they are now going around perimeter of deck anyway. I'm paying $850 for the first outlet and 450 for the second. I feel it's a little steep, especially since I have been waiting since July 6th for an estimate and now completion. Then when I asked If we could get our pool lights installed since the days are getting shorter she started in on how we're not supposed to be swimming blah blah blah and we have to wait for concrete and fence before going in. So they arent going to install the lights until they do the outlets which is super annoying.

I put my completion date at 9/27. And that's being optimistic.
