New Pool IG - Inland Empire, CA - Pool finished, end pix soon!

Re: New Pool IG - Inland Empire, CA - 9/26 decking finally begins!

You always say you like photos, so here's MORE! We have foundation for planter walls poured, after this wall gets built, decking will be poured.

We changed the design of the steps a tad to shorten the wall a bit. Note the 2 lower steps now curve into the wall-

This gives us a bit more play with the wall height and let it step up in a way we want. Feel free to glance back a page to notice the minute difference. It's the little details like this that become the most time consuming when it comes to just thinking about them...

This is what the yard looked like yesterday, you can see the grand canyons they dug to pour the foundation.

P9280053-1.jpg

Concrete action shot! The wall begins to take shape! So cool for us to see this part of the yard begin to take some sort of shape... for 8 years is was dirt and weeds... then for the past 11 weeks it has been a pile of rock... soon to be a cactus garden!

P9280065-1.jpg

End result for the day. You can correlate this image to the drawing up above to see where the steps will be... The raised patio will be ~8' x ~17'... a lot of wiggle room and space for a couple chairs, a little table, and likely a metal firepit.

The cat is already using the raised patio...

Cheers!

ohhhhhhhhhh I LOVE the curve on at the bottom! Adds a little something to the look! NICE!

You are going to love having your build and ideas here to look back on!

Re: New Pool IG - Inland Empire, CA - 9/30 Jumprock in place!

Work has been moving along... the jumprock is cemented in place and is awaiting some finishing touches around it (stacked stone flush with it and caps along the wing wall to it). The planter wall is done and is awaiting caps and stucco. Drains are in place for the raised patio and forms will be going in tomorrow for the steps and the raised patio...

On to the pix!

P9300081-1.jpg

Overview of the job. You can see the 3 raised drains (one is a bit hidden near the wheel barrel) which all tie into the tall one by the guy in gray (this drain will actually be moved toward the bottom of the image to center it in the patio). I'm really excited about running the sprinkler and lighting in the planters (as well as planting the plants!).

P9300088-1.jpg

As you can see from within the pool, the jumprock is in place. The stacked stone will be continued up to be flush with the bottom of the rock. I think it blends pretty well with the stonework... I thought it would be too white, but it looks great in the afternoon sun with all the stone.

P9300086-1.jpg

I apologize for the shadow, but along the wing wall and a bit into the rock is where some of the wall cap will go. We spent most of the day thinking about how to finish this little corner next to the jumprock. We decided to step down the block behind the rock (as seen in place) and then lower the wingwall a bit so as to expose the edge of the rock a bit more. As always, it's the little things like this that take the most thinking and head scratching.

P9300089-1.jpg

Last but not least... this showed up in the pool. I think it knows a pool is coming... it blew out of nowhere into the front yard a few days ago... then worked its way into the sideyard... and the wind must've blown it in there a day or two ago. The beach balls know...

Re: New Pool IG - Inland Empire, CA - 9/30 Jumprock in place!

I will say this, our cement guy is very precise... we'll be able to balance an egg on this cement once all is said and done. We're looking to pour on Thursday, forming of the steps took a while but it's all done now. Steps on the other side need to be done and a few other things needs to be done after the pour (stucco, caps, the remaining stacked stone, and the upper patio flagstone (residual coping)).

PA040116-1.jpg

Gotta vibrate down the dirt. This thing was LOUD :-D

PA040128-1.jpg

The steps are finally formed, took him all day (had to redo the 1st because the curve was off). I guess I've only ever done/watched flatwork before, have never done elevation with cement and encountered the amount of time and forming that needs to go into it so it doesn't all collapse once the cement is poured in. So, there they are, steps! :-D We're thinking we should name the upper patio... I'm going with The Promenade... any suggestions?

PA040125-1.jpg

A neat shot showing that the project is certainly nearing completion. You can see the step down from the balcony patio to the level of the pool (coping). The feral beach ball is hiding in the shadows in the pool...

We had to go down to the local pool/tile warehouse to pick up a skimmer access riser so it will be the correct height in the cement patio, our PB sent us down to buy and pay for it ourselves... not sure what to think about that, but, oh well. We also bought some more stacked stone for the wing wall we built (PB claimed the stone guy would be back to finish that after it was built... but we'd rather pay our cement guy some hours to do it being it'll be done now and now at some unknown point in the future (or never)).

It's exciting to see the project coming together! For so many years it was a dirt slope, now it's usable space with stairs!

Re: New Pool IG - Inland Empire, CA - 9/30 Jumprock in place!

It will have a light color to it (to match the sideyard as best we can) and it will have a stamped texture. The 1ft borders and strips (there'll be a couple) will have a light brushing so as to break up the pattern.

Our cement guy is bringing patterns over tomorrow so we can check them out.

Re: New Pool IG - Inland Empire, CA - decking pour tomorrow 10/6!

As always I have tons of photos, but, I wont bore you with them today and will show you all the finished cement tomorrow instead. They've set all the forms and drains/skimmer access into place and the cement truck will be here at 7a tomorrow morning!

PA050137-1.jpg

Here are the steps on the other side. I think the curve is nice and compliments the curve of the pool. The area from where the photo was taken will unforunately remain dirt for the time being, and will be part of PHASE II after the pool is completed... maybe November... likely January... we'll see.

Cement pix tomorrow!

Re: New Pool IG - Inland Empire, CA - decking pour tomorrow 10/6!

TEASE!!!! I want to see them NOW! LOL

I noticed the curve right away and thought how nice it looked! Well done! I have a sad that the other part will be done later but........the wallet must fill back up!

Re: New Pool IG - Inland Empire, CA - decking pour tomorrow 10/6!

We just finished our all of our yard this past August - which was just over 1 year after our pool was "finished" with water in it...it was crazy to have a dirt patch just sitting for so long, but now we are pretty much done with the yard, so I understand the delay you will have!

I would still like to add some lights and some trellises but there is no rush for that at this point. Good luck with the concrete pour - soon you will be ready for plaster and water!

Re: New Pool IG - Inland Empire, CA - Decking Poured 10/6!

First ~4 hours of work, they're stamping now, and finishing their lines. Here's your photos Kim!

PA060158-1.jpg

Truck showed up at 6:30a, work started at 7a on the button! They marked some final lines on the wood/edges and began to pour!

PA060162-1.jpg

They filled in around the edges and into the middle of the form. They hold boards up to fill in a section to level and then move on to the next section. We were wondering how much cement it would take, we had 10 yards of cement delivered and ended up with ~just under half a yard left over. Better to over spend by $40 to have enough than to not have enough and need to spend another $400 for a single yard to be delivered!

PA060167-1.jpg

Pump guy purged his system after he was done. They cleaned up the street nicely... the HOA shouldn't have a problem (grass is a bit squishy though).

PA060173-1.jpg

After pouring, they start cutting their lines. They must cut the same line 10-20 times... I guess they start it as it begins to solidify and then keep cutting it as it firms up. They look great by now!

PA060172-1.jpg

George the head worker made sure that the cement was poured exactly as it should be for drainage purposes. He went through and made sure each square/rectangle goes inward to the drain.

PA060182-1.jpg

When they took the forms off the steps, the whole thing didn't go "plegh" and slop down into the patio, so that's good! We're glad we went with wider steps because there's enough space for two people (at least) to go up or down or both at the same time. You can see the space for the flagstone on the raised patio. Off to the left you can see the side yard cement color, this will be similar to it when it is all dried.

All flat and pretty for stamping (which they're doing right now). More photos of the finished job later!
