New Pool Build in Spring, TX

looks awesome....can't wait to see it filled! Congratulations on FINALLY getting plastered, I feel your pain as I patiently wait, 3 months and counting! We're here in Tampa Bay Florida and are still holding in the 90's, we may actually get swim time when it's done!

I missed this yesterday!!! I'm so happy for you!!! Can't wait to see it full of water! And, hey, you can always don a wetsuit if the weather doesn't cooperate!
More pics please!!

Thanks! I see you're making some progress, too. It does take time.

I have some other pics but we we're inside while they were working so the detail is not great. I'll get some better shots when I get home today.

I was a little confused on the process. I knew it was a 2 day process, but I thought the acid wash on the 2nd day was what exposed the pebble. That is done with a water wash after application on the first day. The surface looks a little uneven so I guess the acid wash will normalize everything. At least I hope so.

Regardless, it looks much better than the old gunite shell we've been looking at for 8 weeks. Haha.

We chose flagstone for the coping and raised wall. In the back of my mind I guess I knew it would flake some but we've noticed enough now to think we'll probably battle flakes in the pool on an ongoing basis.

The guys installing it did try to chip away all the loose stuff they could but, being a natural stone it's going to continue to do that.

Might as well consider adding an SWCG now. Heh heh.

I was told by other friends to expect a 3 month build. We went from dig through electrical in 3 weeks so I (and our PB) was expecting a very quick build. Until we got delayed by the decking crew.

How far along are you? We didn't hit any real snags or redos so we haven't had those sorts of delays.

Our PB uses excellent subs and we're not super picky. For example, there are probably a couple of pieces of flagstone that others might not accept, but they don't bother us. We chalk it up to the variety of natural stone.

We got one spot on the deck that needs some attention. We had a 30 second hard rain right after they stamped the concrete and left and there are what looks to be some kind of pitting. But that's not going to delay the build.

Good luck!

I'll post some pics when I get a chance but the Blue Surf dry after acid wash looked quite splotchy. It looks better now that water is covering the bottom, but it's still noticeable.

The neighbor getting their pool at the same has the same issue with Tahoe Blue.

I don't know enough to know what is normal or expected. I don't expect perfection, but did expect better than what I got.

Since both our pools were done by the same plaster company and one that is pretty well respected, I'm not sure now I would go with a blue based plaster if I could do it over.

Here's an example.

A certain amount of variability is expected initially, time and brushing improves and evens this out.
I think from the picture your show, it needs more than time and brushing.
This appears to need the acid wash guys and some MA to bring it back into line.

That's good to know. Right now we're still filling the pool so we haven't given it any time and don't own a brush yet.

Alright. Pool finished filling this morning around 5am. Filled the spa in, oh, about 2 hours or so (don't quote me on that). Here are some pics. It's a little cloudy and sprinkling so maybe it'll look different when the sun comes out. BTW - we did take a stroll around the shallow end yesterday. Water was about 2 inches above the middle step / benches.

Our JRT that is so upset at bath time did get onto the second step. She was so enamored with the holes for the Paramount PV3. She even stuck her snout down in one on the second step. You could see bubbles coming up. It was hilarious! Wish we could have snapped a pic, but it was over in about 2 seconds.

Yay!!! Water and plaster!! It looks beautiful!
Did you address the issues with the splotchy color with your PB?

I love your Jack! My last dog was a Jack named Bella. She was my baby for 10 yrs. She was never good with little kids and she would attack any other dog she could get a hold of and she liked to escape. A very bad combination. We kept her under tight rein and that worked for all those years. Until my grandchildren came along. She tried to bite them a few times and it was becoming a problem. We made the very difficult decision to put her down after she escaped the house and was running amok in the neighborhood while the school bus was dropping off kids. I finally caught up to her trying to get into a neighbor's house to get at their dog.
My son and daughter met me at the vet and we said goodbye to her. We loved on her until she was gone. We buried her in our backyard in her favorite blanket. She was the smartest, funniest dog! I cried everyday for almost 3 months. We just couldn't take the chance anymore of her biting someone's child or attacking their dog and us getting sued, or her biting one of my grandbabies.
Thanks for sharing a picture of your pretty girl! JRTs always make me smile.

Blessings!

I understand. We had a Russell previously for 14 1/2 years. We found her abandoned at a year old. She was the same way. Nervous aggressive around people, especially kids. Very aggressive around other dogs. We kept a tight rein and it worked OK for us until father time won the war of attrition.

Lexi, our current Russell, loves people. She's ok with most dogs unless they get aggressive. Of course the neighbor dachshund is territorial so they don't get along.

We took her to puppy school (once a week for 6 weeks) to get her socialized early. It worked ok. We still take her to the activity center twice a month for a full day of play and socializing.

We just need to be smarter and more diligent.

Thanks Marla.

My wife and I went to Israel back in 2010 and the root of that drum head art was a picture I took at the garden tomb.

I play electronic drums but decided to convert an acoustic kit to electronic and then had been trying to figure out a custom bass drum head. I don't play in a band so a band name was out. Then it clicked. Found a great artist to put the goo in my head on a head. It turned out just fine. Now if only I could buy some talent. Haha.

Quick update. We're going through startup. Not exactly sure what the PB is doing because we're almost never here at the same time.

But, there is a leak in the autofill under the deck. Apparently the deck crew hit the line when they were framing the deck. Since it wasn't pressurized no one had any idea.

Side question - why couldn't the autofill line be pressurized?

So we wait until next week for the deck crew to come out and dig up part of the deck so the plumbers can fix the leak.

I'm beginning to think we should have went with our top PB. This guy just isn't very attentive. We have to always call him - "where do we stand?" - "what is up next and when will they be here?" And, of course, we're nor told anything so we find out when they show up.

Last night one of his techs came out and put some chems in the pool and loaded up the DE filter. About 15 minutes after he left, the pumps stopped. I thought that was weird. Called the PB today to ask a different question and just mentioned the pumps shut off. He said that wasn't right and that they should run 24/7. He was on his way over.

So, we're not given any list of process or expectations so I didn't know the shut off was nor planned. And who knows how long it would have been off if I hadn't called him. Don't know when he was coming by next to check on things.

I just get the impression that we're not a priority for him.

Fortunately we're close to being done but I feel like I have to stay on top of things daily.
