New owner/New pool chemistry question

Hi. Our pool was completed and filled on Dec 19. It’s 9400 gallon quartz plaster IG pool. It has a SWG but that isn’t running for a couple more weeks. This past Monday the Pb came by and added a gal of muriactice acid to bring ph down, 1/2 gal of Instant Conditioner along with a bag of Super Shockwave. I believe he may have added some calcium but not sure. Anyway, I have tested the water using the TF-100 kit and my results are as follows. I’m new to all this so my confidence level is a bit shaky reading the values but here goes

Ph= 7.2
CYA =30
Chlorine = at least 3ppm (could be higher but reading that yellow side is a bit tough for me)
CH = 350
TA =40

With the TA I added drops until the color changed and stayed to a pinkish red and didn’t changed back while swirling

I told the Pb my results but haven’t heard back yet. Should I do something about the TA or wait to hear what the Pb says?

Do not use any more Calcium Hypochlorite (aka Shockwave). Your CH will rise due to fill water addition this summer. So you do not need any more calcium.

I would check your TA again tomorrow. If still at 40, add 20 ppm worth of baking soda. Also, please do not let them blindly add MA anymore. Only add what is necessary based on testing.

For your FC, use the FAS-DPD test. It is the 0870 powder and 0871 liquid. No need to bother with the TC test using the yellow comparison block.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll test FC and TA tomorrow. Will also head over to Walmart to get some baking soda. Have started using pool math to start tracking all of this.

I rechecked values today
Ph=7.2
CH=350
TA=30
FC=2
CYA=30 (could be slightly lower)

Per pool math I added baking soda to raise TA 20ppm

I’ll check TA and Ph again tomorrow. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Keep your FC at 3 ppm at a minimum. CYA needs to get to 70 ppm by April or so, when you begin using your SWCG.

Thanks. I.rechecked FC and maybe I’m getting better at it but it was at 3. Pb didn’t want me adding any bleach until he turns on the SWG in a week or so but I suppose I could add some. I have some 10%. I could add a bit more conditioner too to bring up cya as well. I have about 10 oz left. All he left me with was the shockwave which as you mentioned I shouldn’t add. I checked TA today and it’s 70. PH is 7.5.
