New Northeastern Pa Build

There’s more to this story. Is food that scarce up your way? Or just leaving plenty for your elders? I have heard though that if you eat three squares a day all of the wood in your pool house ceiling will shrink.
This is pan fishing season! Strike when it’s hot. We only take panfish cause it help level the weight allowed for lakes and ponds to help bass grow. We never take bass. We want big bass to catch and release. That huge load up above got split up between 4 of us. The other 2 pics are for my freezer and my parents. We joked that day that we caught the 90 some. We said at least we will have food if it all goes sideways. Grant it we will then die of mercury poisoning. Lol

I think my wood is finally good. I’m optimistic. No way a piece of wood can shift if face nailed every 18 inches. I hope!

not has been a crazy good fishing season already. And we shouldn’t even be fishing yet. Usually we don’t get out till mid April for panfish. This is just all bonus we keep saying.

Thanks for the backstory!

Got a bunch done this morning. Hardest part is over. Now it’s just dump fill rinse repeat. No slopes to form. I just follow grade now.

time to go for trout. They opened trout season in pa today with no announcement. Wacky. Pa stocked trout is gross but they r fun to catch. Figured take the yak out and fish on my own a little.

Thank god I took my yak. The shore line was arm to arm. People r nuts. We are suppose to be rod length apart and there were people everywhere. I was nervous just looking at everyone. All these young kids with their parents. We r supposecto be wearing masks now in our area too. I was the only one with my buff covering my face. Not 1 other person. Scarey. I bailed after 1 hr. I just couldn’t get into fishing.

Well we caught a nice day so my dad and myself backfilled my retaining walls by the house. 6 inches of gravel out from the wall to the top of the wall for winter freeze and thawing. Rest is dirt. Took forever cause we had to hand shovel all the dirt in cause we couldn’t just dump it in. Then we got another 500 or so square feet done on side of the house.
I’m going to use the bed for my herbs vs having to walk out to the garden when we need stuff for cooking. I got the idea from when we eat at Narcoossee’s down in Disney. The path into the restaurant is all thier herbs they use in the restaurant.

Looking good! And great idea on the herbs. I'll have to put some in my area that looks exactly like yours. It is 1/2 or more planted so has some decent room.

Thanks man. Every year I end up not using them fresh cause we r too lazy to walk. Hop over the garden fence and pick some. I end up doing a ton of work in the fall to freeze everything. It isn’t a bad thing cause then we have stuff all through the winter but it takes forever. I really want to just enjoy my back yard this year. For 3 years now I have been under construction. All I have left is the landscaping which is somewhat relaxing for me. I have lighting and speakers to do but those will be summer projects being we will most likely still be stuck home throughout the summer I figured.

Dirt is done! 60 ton of dirt. Moved. I had a little extra so I topped off 2 areas by pool. I think 7 ton will get me topped off for rest of pool. I’m going to run my conduit for audio and lighting first though.
So tomorrow I got to call penn state extension to find out when I can put down my seed. It’s pure bluegrass. So nights have to be a bit warmer still but not sure exactly so I’ll call them. My dad is saying ground has to be 65. Right now it’s 55 plus. But 65 seems high. Not that I don’t believe him. Lol.

Tomorrow I measure for edging and then I can order it. I’m replacing all my old stuff too. I’m using the same stuff I used when I built but now I know how to install it better so I’m ripping out throwing away and redoing.

Now the only issue I have is my 4 sprinkler heads r now 6 inches down cause I changed elevations majorly. I’ll have the company who manages it bring them up unless I get impatient and I’ll drug them out. How hard can it be.
Famous last words!

Extending sprinkler heads is really easy. Just 3/4" or 1/2" PVC usually and get a male and female adapter smooth female on one end and screw on on the other and cut and glue them to size and just unscrew the existing sprinkler and screw on the extension and screw that back onto the pipe.

oh no I figured I could just lift the whole line up by digging it out. I have to extend them?

Got my sprinkler heads up. They have the ones I needed to move t’ed off the main lines. That extension line is 16 inches long so I had play. So that’s done too. My edging comes tomorrow. I’m redoing my whole yard. I have everything I need to plant so next week I’ll get it done I guess.

Seed is down. Waiting on all my plants for side of the house. Then rock and it will all be done. All I’ll have left is around pool. I’m at a standstill there being the speakers I need are on backorder and I don’t want to lay the conduit till I get all product in.
On a side note I wanted stepping stones to get to my equipment pad. I know I can just walk in the rock but I wanted to break it up a bit. I got a lady making me Mickey Mouse heads out of Portland cement. Lol

Ok I need help. I’m lighting clueless. I want to do landscape lighting for the side of the house and pool house back wall and side wall. Here are pics.
My whole landscaping on side of house and pool house is 4 foot high plants and 1 foot high in front. Mass planting. No standout single pieces. No trees.
I also want to do a bit of lighting in the planter out back. Where my herbs are going to be.

My thoughts but change as u see fit.
Right now I have uplifjt in front of house to highlight the brick.
I was thinking up lighting on corners of pool house like the front of the house.
I was thinking 1 uplifjt in fireplace bump out to highlight the brick pattern.

what I don’t know is what else in planters and o have no idea for side of house. I can’t do spots cause there are no stand out pieces. They are all the same. 27 little limes for back row and 50-70 white day lily in front.

I need ideas people!

Uplights on the house always look good so you might as well run a string down the side. Since you don't have landscape then just space them evenly.

Plan on getting 2X however many lights you're thinking of installing....this is definitely a situation where some is good but more is better
