New Liner and Fresh Fill Questions....

Does it look like this?

This is the best depiction I can give of how rust will "hover" (yeah this is right after I backwashed right into my pool - zero out of ten, do not recommend).

Send pics - we'll see if we can further diagnose.

Truly about as creepy as I could get! You are WELCOME!

No cloud of any sorts just looks like the lights have been turned out in the deep end. The foot of water in the shallow end is crystal clear right now. I tried to just get a pic but there are fluffy clouds in the sky right now and reflection is to much to see anything about the water 🙄 Our pool when full is 3' in the shallow end and 9.5' in the deep end. I current have 3 socks over the hose end to see if it collects any rust. I'll know more tomorrow on that front.

Socks on your hose, while it sounds good in theory, won’t do you any good until the iron in the water oxidizes in the chlorine. That’s been my struggle with my fill water. My fill is heavily ironized and I still can’t filter it until it cycles the pool with chlorine. Stupid chemistry.

If it’s actually iron, you’ll need it to mix with chlorine to oxide it, and then filter it from the pool through one of the poly buckets.

Do you have a diving board or bottom of a slide to affix the bucket while it filters? A sump pump funneling chlorinated pool water through the bucket should do the trick.

I also am not running through my sand filter yet. Still need a just over 2' of water added which will take another 24hrs of water. I'm only running the well for about 10-12 hours a day to make sure we don't run out. According the county we are on one of the deepest aquifers in the county so we shouldn't have any issue with running out. Especially with the rain we've had this year in the PNW.

Ok back with a Bronze Medal my wife and I won :D Pool is definitely brown after adding chlorine. We are about halfway through filling the pool. 18k gallons in and 18k to go. The inner two socks I put on were definitely brown when I took them off. Used 4. My pool robots filter was also brown but cleaned right off when I cleaned it.

Let’s go!!!! Congrats on Bronze!! 🏆🏆

I’m betting the iron in the water reacted with the chlorine and oxidized and is now actually rust. It’s bucket time, my friend.

Can you rig it up to a ladder, diving board, end of slide?? Just need it to hang out while you fill, plus 1-2 more days while you work out what’s already in the pool too. I don’t think filling through the bucket will get you there faster, sadly.

See post #16 above for an option to start your polyfill filtering now.

Update. We had a couple days of rain so we just filled the pool while the well had more rain to keep up as we now have 80+ degree weather coming up over the next weeks.

I turned on the pump yesterday at 6:15pm and put polyfill in my one skimmer. Today at 12:30pm half the rust is gone! :D Not even 24hrs and we are on the right path. The polyfill was loaded with the rust. You can see the 6:15 pic, 12:30pic and the polyfill rust filled in the pics. All my numbers are great. Haven't started adding salt yet as my SWG won't turn on 🤦‍♂️ So off to research that issue. Thank you for the polyfill info even if I didn't use the bucket option putting it in the skimmer has worked great. I wouldn't have thought about using polyfill.
