Our new pool has turned green (sadly it was crystal clean when we purchased it a month ago) then went to Hawaii and came back to this. How do I save it before I fork over $800 to pool cleaning. FYI, I know a big rookie trying to understand my pool.

First step - be sure you have a TF-100 (link in my signature) or Taylor K-2006C test kit. We need to see a full set of water test results from one of those and we can guide you through the next steps. No guesswork, just proper testing and accurate chemical dosing.

Be sure to visit our Pool Care Basics page and we'll be happy to help. Enjoy the forum. :swim:

Welcome to TFP.
It is best to reallocate that $800 to items and a process that will help you long term.
The $100 should go to a proper test kit. The TFT-100 is the better value (more testing reagents, etc) but the Taylor K2006C can be purchased direct from Taylor Technologies online or you can find it on Amazon. It may be more than $100.

The next $55 should be to purchase 10gals of Liquid Chlorine - can purchase at Walmart or Home Depot. You may need more later but 10gals should get you started.
So for $155 you are well on your way to solving this algae issue and the test kit is a long term investment.

You may spend another $150 on more liquid chlorine, and Muractic acid, but until you post your first set of test results we don’t know the current status of your pool water other than it is with algae.

Please post pictures of your equipment pad, need volume of your pool, etc
Update your signature by going to Settings then to Signature to include your list of equipment included mfg. And model numbers if you have them.

Thank you for the warm welcoming! Unfortunately on my inspection report, volume wasn’t measured. I was planning of having a pool guy come and teach me about my pool but everyone was booked and now it’s green.

POST pictures of your pool and equipment pad. We can help. You really need to purchase some LC soon and put it in the pool.
Do you have some basic measurement of your pool? We can show you how to calculate pool volume.

I read that bleach and LC are same chemicals, which one do you recommend? And how much to put in first?

Sodium Hypochlorite is commonly called liquid chlorine or bleach. Most household bleach that you will find in stores is 6% chlorine. Pool chlorinating liquids may be 10% or 12.5% chlorine.

Your water level also looks low, it would be good to add water when you go to measure.
Yes, I found the pool fill valve and it is now on. The first picture is before and the second picture was after. But I know the image wasn’t that clear on the water measure. Tf-100 kit and CYA kit ordered. Will be buying several gallons of LC as well.

Perfect! :goodjob: Great choice. While waiting for the kit, be sure to bookmark our Pool Care Basics page and review many of its sub-articles. Just about anything you need to know is in that area. When your kit arrives, post your results as follows:

We'll go from there. Enjoy the weekend.
