New house, New-to-me pool, new adventure!

LOL on getting a lot more done after 10:00! SO true!

We have done some experiments and found you should have close to your target CYA since you got it all dissolved and it has been in the pool overnight. I can't wait to hear your results.

That is awesome the left behind chlorine is that strong! SWEET!

So now is when you start taking the pics looking down into your pool. Put your brush in so we can have a point of reference. You should start seeing more and more of it each day.

FC was at 8ppm this morning. According to PoolMath I added one jug to bring it up to shock level...

Tested CYA as well under overcast morning skies and was able to see the black dot disappear just about the middle between 20 and 30 so I'm going to call it 25.

Call it 30. FYI: You will note that the gradations on the cylinder are not evenly spaced, so if it's half way, it's beyond 25. Next time it's sunny, redo the test. Maybe this holiday weekend you can find the time!

Please, if you can, try to take 5-10 minutes to test FC and add chlorine after work also. You can brush at 10!

They are replacing and even delivering/taking away the damaged fencing but it's going to take about 2 weeks.

On a happy note, very pretty shade of cloudy blue!

Tested FC when I got home and it was sitting at about 5.5ppm.

Put 2 gallons chlorine in to bump up to shock level... Keep on chuggin!

Mom is back at work... She doesn't like it but it is what it is...

I keep rounding up so hopefully I get it above shock level to aid in the time length...

Kids and I did the Chem test together and they counted drops for me while figuring out FC and testing CYA.

Good idea on the helpers and earning points! They've already asked about pool party play dates.

Just tested and FC is at 10. Adjusting to raise above shock level.

Tested CC and it's at 1.5. It was either at 0 or 0.5 before, anything to be concerned about?

-----update-----

Did a quick search and it sounds like CC can get upwards of 2ppm during slam due to it eating/killing/oxidizing algae. There is a significant amount of oxidization on top of the pool surface, seems to match up.

You're right. The CC's are not always a bad sign. You can assume that means that your chlorine is doing its job. The lack of CC's on the other hand, don't necessarily mean you are okay, as you well know!

I was wondering about the "stuff" on the surface and was attributing it to CYA dust. I was also wondering if you had added any algaecide. Some products can do that.

No algaecide here!! That was one of the first things the pool guy told me to get when I had my outdoor water tested for metals! I kindly nodded my head and went on my way.

You all are my teachers and I am but a young padawan trying to conquer the dark side of algae!
