Since it is brand new I made sure to take all necessary steps to ensure I keep it nice for a long time... Definitely turning pump off before I switch the multi-port valve. AND turning it only clockwise.

Kimkats - I will take a picture sometime today.

UPDATE: just got some muriatic acid and have the pool math calculations (off the top of my head I believe it is around 78oz of 31.45% acid to drop Ph from 8.2 - 7.4.

Will be stopping by my local farm market potentially today to see about stabilizer as I only have under a lb of granules but they have boxes and boxes of liquid chlorine and stabilizers and such!

Is it safe to factor the current 12.5% liquid chlorine I have that was left by previous owners at 10% since it has been sitting over the winter and spring? I don't know how effective it is anymore.
 
With your PH-----Add the MA, let it mix for about 30 mins. THEN test again. It might be higher than you think. If it is still high dose again, test after 30 mins. muxing, repeat as needed.

-left over chlorine-Play with it to see how strong it is. In Pool Math put it in as 10% and shoot for ?? level. Let it mix, test and see what it did. Go from there.

Frog free??? I get frogs, salamanders, and newts and such all summer!! 2-3 a day sometimes...
 
Didn't see the post about Menards before I got stabilizer.... Boo!

I'm about 128oz of muriatic acid in... Still at or above 8.2Ph.

Added 80oz more about 15 mins ago.

Redid CYA test and I was able to fill the tube up and never saw it disappear. Does that mean I have CYA of 0?

If so, am I looking at an ammonia situation?
 
Let's see first where your pH is now. Was the CYA mixture at all cloudy? Anything below 20 is just that. Could be 0, could be 15. When it's time to add, take it slow. For now, get the pH down and then try the ammonia test. Do you have directions?

Just measured Ph... It's still 8.2 but it is much less purple, much more matched with 8.2. I dumped the remaining 48oz of muriatic acid that I have left currently.

CYA test did have a cloudy dot in the 20 range but I didn't actually see the dot disappear at all.

I will read up on ammonia test. Or if someone want to allow me to be lazy and has a link.

Right now is family time so anything pool related will have to wait for a few hours.
 
I just put 1 gal of the previously left liquid chlorine that is listed at 12.5%. I'm going to check Ph and FC in just a few to see if there is an FC reading. IF there is I should be able to do some reverse pool math to figure out what % the chlorine is at, or if FC is at 0 after only 15 mins, well then that's something else...

Stay tuned for test results.
 
Current test results:

Ph: 8.2
FC: 4ppm
CC: 0.5ppm
TA: 110ppm


After figuring pool math for 0 set to 4 goal, it looks like the chlorine is sitting at about 11% still. That sounds a little too good to be true.... Checking FC again soon (30 minute interval to check for any loss)


Final update for the evening:

Retested FC: 3ppm

So FC loss of 1ppm over 45 mins w/ no sun.

To be expected... Buying more MA tomorrow and hopefully getting that settled tomorrow.

Discovered my local farm market has 4 packs of 12.5% liquid chlorine for $16.40. Good price or no?
