I have a CMP diverter valve that I installed a couple of months ago. While hunting an intermittent air leak I found a crack. I seem to remember a thread or something on repairing these sort of valves. I don't believe they were overtightened when I reassembled after install, and it certainly wasn't there before install as I inspected the valves carefully.

Likely that the screws did not go into the original threads.

If you cross-thread the screw, it can cause damage to the screw threads or plastic housing.
