Update! After going back and forth with the builder we have decided to go with the Hayward Omnihub Automation system with the AquaRite SWCG system. Also my wife decided that she really wanted a pair of 24" sheer decent waterfalls on the raised back wall. The PB spec'd the automation to control the WF pump and the waterfalls and bubbler would need to be isolated individually at the pad if we don't want to run both. I sent back another message to find out about adding actuators to the bubbler valve and the waterfall valve so we can control them with the automation system instead. I feel that for the cost of adding the automation there is no reason we should have to go back to the pad to make any adjustments to the system while we are swimming. Does anyone see anything wrong with this plan?
 
I think the OmniHub can only control two actuators and if I remember correctly you also have an integrated spa. You'll also need a daughter board for controlling the AquaRite.

We do have the spa, and the original estimate from the builder was going to only control the drains and returns from the pool and spa. I was thinking that the ominhub was supposed to integrate with the aquarite, but I do not know the specifics.

As a side note, the builder did say that he has miquoted the SWCG initially when he said $2700. As of right now my quote for the Omnihub with only controlling the pool/spa and adding the SWCG is $3700. I have no idea if that is a good deal or not, but it is something my wife really wanted and there is no point spending the money on a project like this and not getting what you want.
 
Gunite is the major delay right now. Not saying your pool builder is good, but if they are smart they won't dig till they're 99% sure they're getting gunite right after rebar as they chance having to redig and rebar again if there is a bad rain before the gunite.
 
We are supposedly waiting for dig a few days before gunite is scheduled. Problem is the storm that never came here and nobody lost a single day of work pushed me back over 2 weeks, the storm before that with no real major rainfall on this end of town pushed me back 3 weeks. When I hired this company it was expected to have the pool completed by Labor Day and now I am hoping to start by Labor Day. I honestly feel like I am paying the "Covid" premium for the pool and can't even get started. We have had weeks on end with great weather and I already told him if he can't get moving I will just have someone else build me a pool for next season. At this point there is no reason to not have been started unless he just doesnt have enough leverage with his contractors to get them on the job and I am tired of dealing with it.
 
I'm in Houston too in the middle of a build, and I've had a hole now for 3 weeks. Dig, rebar, and initial plumbing took 2 days. Gunite was supposed to happen right after then heavy rain storm, then hurricane BS (although they did come "flash" the hole Monday that week), and that lost hurricane week with no rain backed them up further. I've had at least 3-4 missed dates now where gunite was supposed to show, and they didn't. My contractor is mad too.

My builder uses one of the two "Big" gunite contractors in town, and they're struggling to keep up (as in they're not).

I know all us Houstonians have been watching each other’s threads...for timing perspective, we signed contracts with our PB on 6/25 and just did our dig and gunite this week. Our PB has been working with the gunite company since the started 30 years ago, BUT he only builds 4-5 pools a year now...we’re actually his first this year...so he’s not one of the big guys that can try and jump the line. Just stating all that to give our experience in how long we had to wait. Unfortunately with the insanely high demand right now, patience is the name of the game...and whiskey/bourbon/beer.

Keeping my fingers crossed that ya’ll get some gunite love asap!

We dig on Friday! The builder was out this morning and did the layout of the pool according to the original renderings, and we were less impressed than we were with the size of the pool after seeing it layed out in the yard. We decided that we will keep the design pretty much the way it is but will add 6' of length to the middle. Because we already have so much covered area for seating it didn't make sense to add all of the concrete on the end of the pool and have a smaller pool, so we will keep the decking outline the same stretch the pool 6' on the end closest to the firepit.

(y) What will that bring your dimensions to? My layout is scheduled for next week, It cannot get here quick enough!
 
Upgraded renderings! There are a few little weird curves that have shown up with the addition of the 6' in the middle section of the pool that we will have to address with the builder, but here are the latest renderings. Anyone have any input on the overall design that they would like to share?

Yeah looks a little weird now. Maybe fewer "ripples" on the curves.

That is what I am thinking also. I want to take the curve at the corner of the tanning ledge back out and make it more of a natural curve, and the same with the one at the corner of the bench in the deep end. I think I am ok with most of the rest of it, but will see how I feel when they do the new layout.
