New build - Katy, TX (near Houston)

Now moving on to the landscaping projects around the pool...
I decided to put bamboo trees along the back fence.

I didn't realize bamboo has over 50 different variants... I got the clumping Maculata "Olive Green" bamboo. They mature to height of ~25ft. Matured ones look like this:

I am envisioning the zen/tropical theme backyard... I am not sure if that makes sense at all... I'll probably pick up giant birds of paradise, white plumeria, and majesty palm this weekend...

I also hired a local college student to stain the fence for me. He did a great job cleaning and staining.

I just ordered a few outdoor furniture and umbrellas... All said and done, furnishing outdoor space is going to cost me at least $5K... UGH...

On the Bamboo, did you bound the back side of the planter bed to keep them from running into your neighbor’s property?

(I only mention because a lot of HOA’s have restrictions on bamboo due to their propensity to spread)

Here is a product you can bound the root system with.

Bamboo Shield - Lewis Bamboo

Edit: I looked back and saw you went with the clumping bamboo a which spread a lot slower....

Yeah, I went with the clumping type. Landscaper told me I can keep cutting the new shoots closer to the fence or bury heavy paver stones/bricks between the fence and the bamboo to prevent it from going over the fence... I think running bamboos are the ones that are very invasive.
I actually had the landscaper put a barrier in the front (you can see those barriers sticking out of the ground in the pics), so bamboo doesn't overtake my yard.

Gunite guys did a good job leveling. At 1200 RPM (35%) water spills very evenly all across the spillway (no dead spot). At 650 RPM (20%) water still gets distributed very evenly all across the spillway, but there are few dead spots (not spilling over) due to tile height variation, but no one can tell since barely any water is spilling over anyways. My lowest pump RPM is set at 35%.

So how did the flow over the infinity edge work out. To your liking?

Thank you! I guess everything is relative. Fence didn't look too terrible before the pool, but once the pool construction finished, fence looked worse than ever... I had to get them stained... LOL

Really like how everything turned out. The fence came out nice.

By the way, when is the earliest I can start using a robot vacuum to clean the pool? I have been manually vacuuming, but I am so over it.. :p

I appreciate your feedback! I would love to hear the reason why bamboo is not good.

One thing that concerned me at the time of tree selection was that bamboos can get out of control, and look messy. For that reason, I selected medium height, clumping bamboo that mostly stays where you plant them. Also, my plan for these bamboos is to groom them heavily once they mature, so they look clean and neat. Luckily, the bamboo nursery I bought these from offer grooming service as well.. Here are some of my inspirations:

Pool looks good! Hate to be a killjoy, but I think you are going to regret the bamboo.

I tackled landscape lighting for the past two days... I still have to plant shrubs and clean up around bamboos... Never ending...

Yeah, I hope so. If not, I'll trim them myself. HAHA

The inspiration shots look great, hopefully the specialists from the nursery will be a good resource.

I briefly thought about that, but planters I wanted to get were so expensive, and I would have to get a lot of them to cover 70ft of the back fence...

Plant bamboo in ceramic planters...
