New build - Katy, TX (near Houston)

Unfortunately, it's going to be the pop up drain... I see your point, but because my house sits fairly higher than the curve, I am hoping that only the small amount of water remains in the drain. Another idea I just thought of is to drill small holes near the end of the drain, so the remaining water drains into the soil and water the grass.

You can never have enough drainage. Please tell me they will cut the curb and not put in a pop up drain. If not I would see if they can. It helps with the flow and you don’t get standing water in the drain pipe.

Yeah, I am pretty happy with the pavers PB hired. Tilers are coming back this Sunday to fix all the waterline tiles. Hopefully, they bring their A game... LOL

SO much right will all of this! Well done with the drains and such! That decking looks SO pretty! LOVE the custom covers! That is a sign of good installers!

I like to push my PB to get the most out of him.. LOL

Adding drain pipe was an awesome idea and saved lots of cash Im sure. This is something I wish I had done early on in my build...

Quick update... Plaster is scheduled for tomorrow. We decided to go with Aqua Blue Pebble Sheen. We didn't want white plaster since we would see every dirt and grim, but we also didn't want dark plaster due to Texas heat...

For the past 10 days, 2-3 man crews have been showing up everyday to clean up the yard and regrade the sideyard.

Because I had some issues with the quality of the initial glass tile work, PB hired another tiling subcontractor who is more reputable. This new guy did the negative edge spa walls and fixed most of the tiles that I found to be problematic. I am pretty happy with his work.

FYI, Glass tiles are hazy because of the grout residues.

Please don't mind the dirty travertine deck. Workers have been tracking dirt all over it...

I also had him fix a few copings on the raised wall as they weren't straight. Because my pool has the modern and geometric theme (everything is straight and angled), slightly misaligned coping tiles really stuck out.

This is after fixing all the copings on the raised wall.

Great pool design and color choices. I have a SWG and use my in line chlorinator during the winter months to add tabs and in the early spring to get my CYA up. It's also a plus when you travel. The SWG is fantastic though. My builder used the integrated drain with the pavers for a more finished look. I love it but have to remember to clean the gaps so it will drain properly. It's interesting how easy those gaps fill with dirt.

Thank you! I love your pool as well! That's funny you mentioned SWCG and in line puck dispenser. I was checking out the equipment pad just now, and just realized that PB installed SWCG while I was away on a business trip. Thanks for the heads up on cleaning the gaps!

My lot's front width is 81' and the rear width (back fence) is 69'. Total length of my pool, including the spa is 40'. I agree that proportion is important, and now that I am looking at the "almost" finished product, I am wondering if I should have shortened the overall length by 5 feet. Good luck with your design.

Can I ask what your lot size is? I’m guessing 65’. We are thinking about putting a 40’ pool on a 55’ lot, and I’m nervous about it. Yours looks like it has good proportions.

Looking forward to seeing the plaster go in. I think you’ve made a good choice with the colour you’re going with.

Proportion is definitely important. I think yours looks fine but from time to time I see pools that look greedy in the sense that they take up more yard than they aesthetically should. This is something we spent a significant amount of time debating in our small yard/small pool build.

Thank you! My wife picked out the plaster color, so it's on her if we don't like the color.. LOL Yeah "greedy" is the right word. When I was house shopping while back, I saw some pools where I had to literally hug the fence to get around...

Thank you! I wish I had more deck space... I guess I'll reserve that for my dream house... LOL

Love that deck!

Yeah I like the tiles so far... I chose it without my wife seeing it... LOL Luckily, she likes it too! Hopefully it works well with Aqua Blue Pebble Sheen...

BLING!!!!! Love the color!

I woke up to a leaf blower going off in my backyard at 6:45AM... Crews were busy setting up shop for plastering.

I got dressed, and walked out to the truck just to verify they are using the right stuff... As I got closer to the truck, I tried to find a company logo, but didn't see any... A quiet alarm went off in my head...
I was expecting "Modern Methods" plastered all over the truck, since they are one of the major Pebble Tec licensed plaster/gunite companies in Houston. In fact, they might be the only Pebble Tec licensed company in my area...

I walked towards the back of the truck, I don't see any brown bags... I learned that Pebble Tec comes in brown bags from many restless nights reading TFP...

Alert level is at DEFCON 3...

I rub my eyes and slap my cheek just to make sure I am not dreaming... All the bags and color bottles say "NPT Stonescapes" ....

DEFCON 1... Pistol cocked...

I explain the situation to the foreman. He calls his boss/owner. Owner says the PB's partner said "Aqua Blue", but didn't say which brand..
Foreman shows me the sample they began mixing... Sure enough... stones are larger than Pebble Sheen stones. I explain to the foreman that I specifically wanted
"Pebble Tec" brand, because they come premixed, therefore less variations in color and stone mixtures... It's clearly written in the contract.. "Pebble Sheen", so
there's no side stepping for PB, but to make it right...

I call PB and PB's partner... Not picking up... I fire off spirited texts to them... Then, I shutdown the plaster crew and tell them to move on to another work site...

They had to dump the plaster batch on my yard...

You can't make this stuff up... #dumbfounded

Jay, I was looking at the BLING tile again (man I love that tile)..........do you happen to have a long level or such? It might be the angle of the pics but.......it looks like the edge of the spa is not level. I sure hope it is the angle of the pic but it might be best to double check to be on the safe side.

(Sorry I know you have enough on your plate with the plaster mix up :()
