New Build in NE FL

I mentioned the nicheless tonight but not knowledgeable on how they actually work.

If we turn the deep end light off, the entire deep end will be black. The shallow end light does not reach it at all. After the deep end light creates the shadow, it illuminates a little less than half of the deep end opposite of the light.

Here is another curious thing we noticed and hoping someone can help with this.

Tonight hubby was checking the returns. We have 6. Well we should. The return near the skimmer is sucking in water vs pushing it in. Is there supposed to be a little round pipe that sucks water other than the skimmer and drains? We asked if the skimmer was working and the construction manager put his hand in the water and said it felt like it. Automation doesn't say (I dont believe - I haven't been the one looking at the automation hubby has). I am wondering if the return pipe that is right next to the skimmer was hooked up incorrectly and the return pipe was hooked up to where the skimmer was..... Purely speculating here because I don't know if there should be a circular hole that sucks but I would hope not bc hubby said the suction is so strong it can grab your hand and its hard to move it. Additionally, the returns on the back wall of the pool have a trickle of flow. Like I have to put my knee over the hole, touching the plastic circle, to feel it. The 2 others that are actually returning water to the pool on the opposite side, closest to the equipment, are flowing much stronger. They are supposed to be individually piped so the pressure is equal. They are not in a line, we don't believe. Is this normal? Pump is on medium. Lastly, the drains arent sucking as all the sand the paver crew pushed in the pool is sitting on the bottom next to the drains. Is this normal? If they just have the pump on medium?

Last fun tid bit - there is an orange rust circle around the drain on the right. The one that had to be opened to remove and re tighten the drain plug and it let all that rusty ground water in. Which I expressed a lot of concern over given that rusty ground water was in the pool. Hubby has been brushing and it isn't getting better. Its over 6" in diameter. I cannot get my cell phone camera to focus on it. It keeps focusing on the images reflected on top of the water. I am not happy about this.

I've been following along on your build, it's beautiful! Congrats on your first swim!

I feel your pain! My build was a nightmare, too. I'm glad you have gotten some issues straightened out. I was not so successful. Hopefully, since you have travertine decking, they can fix your light issue. My tanning ledge is pitch black our deck is concrete. No way to fix it

Turns out that one pipe had to be changed from a return to a suction line. Originally we were only using 1 pump later they decided to use a 2nd. My question is how safe is that have one suction. I know these newer pumps have emergency shutdowns but I worry about a child or animal getting caught.

I would find something to put over it so nothing could be caught in it...........I can see what I mean in my head but cannot find the words. Let me look around to see if I can find one online.

Here ya go!

Something along this line........will have to see what works and fits.

Thanks Kim.

Glad it was not a boo boo (sad that is ny first thought after this whole process).

CM forwarded the light photos to PB. He said he saw them but did not hear back from him as to what his answer is to fix it or anything else. He is def avoiding us. He still has to order more travertine pavers bc he didn't heed my warning that we would need 2 crates of pavers. I just want this to be over and to have the quality of pool we paid for.

Hubby did discuss the rust stain in deep end and water ring stain on the shelf with CM and he said they would have the plaster company send someone out to acid wash those areas (I did talk to the other partner of the plaster company when they were applying the plaster and he said the acid can be poured down a straw or tube to get to the stain since it is heavier than water. I know we COULD do it but this isnt our doing so someone else needs to fix it. After hearing the dramatic plaster owner go off about being called to fix plaster issue I can only imagine what he says when he gets out here for ours. If he tries to say this isn't his doing, well, I will remind him of our conversations when this all went down. He really shouldnt have temper tantrums in front of customers.

I did get to sit and relax a little in the pool last night while hubby finally got to get in for the first time. I have 2.5 more weeks before I can truly swim as I just got 2 new tattoos and they need to heal 3 weeks before swimming. It was a tough decision to give up swimming for 3 weeks but the tattoo convention was in town and gives you the opportunity to have so many great artists together in one spot so I had to bite the bullet. But they are on my forearm and under my collar bone so I can get in waist deep.

Water color is looking better and better. Will try to get a pic tomorrow (this crazy weather and pressure systems killed my head today so stayed in bed).

The big picture looks LOVELY and once they fix these details, it will be almost perfect (I still miss my accent tiles). I cant wait to get furniture. I have written down a few options but we need to iron out what we want. I am in love with the TK Classics Florence line from Way fair with navy cushions.

Hubby took some the other day! Just uploaded them. So here is how the water is looking now. So very happy with the color.

The big picture does look lovely . FYI on the furniture, I noticed a lot of the Florence line is out of stock until Oct plus tack on 4 more weeks for delivery, so likely mid November to get it. I think the Miami line would look sharp with the Navy cushions if you haven't looked at it yet. Will you be getting a umbrella, do you need one with the enclosure? If so we love our 13' Treasure Garden from Patio Living and you'd be able to match to your cushion color, expensive but well worth it.

Salty

Salty, no umbrella as the 2 story house, 75' oaks, and the screen provide a lot of shade and even when we have sun, the screen blocks a good bit of the UV (it's the 20/20 mesh) but if we decide we do want one, I will keep that one you mentioned in mind. I really like hearing real people's experiences with products. I haven't checked out the Miami line yet. It is a bit over whelming with all the products they have. I just know we want grey (light or dark doesnt matter but no browns) furniture with the deep seats, navy cushions, and arms on the chairs. I also love the middle piece you can add between the seats that gives a hard arm rest with 2 cup holders (I highly value cup holders and won't even buy a vehicle if it has bad or not enough cup holders lol).

The deck crew was here the other day. I was nursing a migraine so didn't go investiagte what they did. Then the next day we went down to Orlando to Universal and didn't get home until 3am and then yesterday I was recovering from the trip to Universal lol. So I went out this morning and see they replaced the scratched pavers. There is one near the house door with a saw mark in it (which is new.. Cut a new piece and damage an old one) but I am happy to see the scratched pieces gone. They already leveled everything so the deck is looking much better. They also installed the under stair tread lights but one tread is not set into mortar and as I was stepping down, I almost fell bc it rocked. I also need to see how the light looks while on bc I think one of them needs to be moved further out so the ledger stone on the riser doesn't cast a shadow. I still see those uneven pieces on the spa coping (where the wedge pieces are opposite with wide edge inside the spa and skinny edge on outside edge) but it is minor and scared they mess it up more trying to fix it.

They did come out and fix the paver under the cage supports and put the paver under the stone. I looked and saw a spider with an egg sack and lots of dead bugs in this open space. Then realized there is a 2 inch by 5 inch open space between the step and the frame to the cage (just so happens to be where a door is so they couldnt fill it in with another piece of frame). Wondering what to put there? It is large enough for frogs, toads, snakes, mice, rats, and clearly bugs.

The coping on the columns still needs to be fixed. When the original coping guy cut the pieces, they fit tight on the joints. A second crew was sent to finish the work and when they mortared in the pieces, they have gaps in the joints and one column has almost a 1/4 inch gap between 2 pieces. But man I am so glad I made a stink about the stone not being on top of the pavers bc now that it is, it looks a thousand times better!

So really what is left is fix the coping on columns, sand the deck joints again, figure out how to block the gap in the cage, discuss the light fiasco with the shadow over the deep end, they need to finish clean up (left a pile of paver base which I dont mind bc can use that in high traffic areas by barn) but under that are large pieces of concrete from excess in pipe when pouring footer, clean up crew for all the dust and debris all over the house, patio fan, windows, deck, and cage, install expansion parts for automation so we can control everything like we want, plaster crew to acid wash iron stain and water ring stain, and need to ask about the jets that were placed in spa. Hubby said he ordered 3 jets to be the therapeutic kind that spin and 3 regulars. To me, looking at them, they all look the same. I dont know if they did all 6 therapeutic or forgot and did 6 regular.

They did take the covers off the bubblers and put the clear cover over them. Hubby had the lights on last night and those bubblers are very bright. I didnt see them running yet.

We have gotten a ton of rain, last night especially. The water is to the bottom of the coping so will be pumping out water today.

We are so close. Just details and the big light issue to straighten out. And buy furniture! Lol Also need stone and coping ordered for our fire pit. There was supposed to be excess left over but ended up not working out that way. PB had said he would order it for us at cost so need to take care of that too. Oh and we have to figure out what we are doing with the fire bowls. Hubby is worried the stain we ordered is going to be too brown-grey. Have to test the bowl we made and see before staining the larger ones we bought.

For the fire bowls, I was thinking of mixing the fire glass colors with a rich blue, like royal, and then a caribbean blue. Thoughts? Just to pull a splash of color up away from the pool.

The water color is just better every day. I was so worried it was going to be a little too dark but man, it is perfect. This has been such an incredibly stressful process just because of all the mistakes and issues, but it will be worth it. I am just waiting for everything to be made right and really want to hear their suggestion to fixing the light screw up.

I will say we would not have gotten through this process without every one who has chimed in and offered advice, input, support, and shared in the process with us. Truly is a great community.

So nice to hear they are moving on the problem areas! BUT fix one, mess up one

Here is an idea for under the door. So a search for "door sweep" Here is one I found:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BU8UH0E/ref=asc_df_B00BU8UH0E5150970/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=394997&creativeASIN=B00BU8UH0E&linkCode=df0&hvadid=193991302028&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16105803710946868175&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9011580&hvtargid=pla-334682973314

There are solid ones as well.

Fire pit glass- I love the idea of mixing the two colors! That will be pretty! BLING!

Please share the fix for the spa decking area! I am glad it looks better!

Thanks Kim. It's not under the door. It is next to the door frame. I actually pulled up a picture I took of that area before they fixed the stone paver area and it is dark and clearly something was blocking that space on the outside. Hubby just got up and we were discussing it so looks like the paver guys didn't replace it when done. The bolts to the cage frame they removed to fix that area are just sitting on the ground. Clearly they can loosen the bolts but can't replace them. Lol

Shantel, sounds like things are coming together for y'all. We love our cup table and chairs and it was free thanks to Wayfairs mistake! The Miami is pretty bold in the fact that it's white but would really pop with navy cushions and accent pillows, I would of bought it if it was available at the time of our purchase but it's certainly not for everyone! Any word on your Italian spillway stone?

Salty

So question - what do we do about the pool not over flowing bc of the hurricane when it is still in the curing phase? We flood here with normal thunderstorms so if we pump out water, it has no where to go. Was thinking to drain the pool a little to keep it from over flowing but worried it will leave a ring.

Still haven't decided if I am leaving. Hubby has to stay due to his work.

Did you get an overflow pipe put in? If so that may do the trick with it being in a cage. I would NOT pump out below the waterline tile due to the "ring" worries. You can pump it out to just at the bottom of the tile and go from there.

This storm..........Hoping it follows the one model that shows it not even touching land but you and I both know that will not happen :(
