New Build in NE FL

I'm personally a stone guy as you know but let me just offer an non Biased opinion. The stone offers extra detail and a bit of a wow factor and the travertine is very pretty and classy and more contemporary (a softer look).
Which look are you going for with your pool a more wow factor or a subtle contemporary look? That will help you decide which to choose

Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong either way! The stone is a bit more rustic and the travertine is more classic and at the same time more contemporary. The arguments for each are 50/50 -

Stone and tile look awesome and I'm sure all will be good. Looking forward to seeing the finished product...

Thanks guys! We def want to keep a more rustic and less contemporary feel as we can esp bc we went with all these grey and silver finishes and higher end tiles etc. While we want it nice and custom looking, we are on 3 acres with horses. Think of Joanna Gaines from HGTV Fixer Upper. She has that farm house look but it is still up scale and polished but still rustic. That is what we want. We have horses in the front yard! Lol so maybe we will stick with the stone.

Stone it is! Will keep it going in as planned! Thanks for all of your input!

Edgy our stone and tile guy never came today though he said he was. Construction manager has put about 8 calls in to his boss with not a single answer or call back. Coping boss man said he would be here personally today and no showed and now saying Monday. Of course bc we have had 2 dry days in a row, lets waste them.

We did put our forms together and poured our first fire bowl. We will see tomorrow after it sets up if it came out like I hoped. We also went to the store and got our electrical conduit for our outlets. PB said to lay it out where we want it and he will have his deck guys bury it for us and then we will run the wires ourselves. His cost was $800. Doing it ourselves is $200. We wanted to run the gas lines ourselves too but after reading up on it, it is way more involved and specific and mistakes can literally kill you and your family so hiring that out even though it looks simple.

Don't you have Edgy's phone number? He might be helping his fellow worker pack or??? Too bad he did not do what he said he would do :( His boss is not doing his job at all! DUDE at least answer the phone!!! gurrrrrrrr

STONE WON!!! YES!!!

We had originally talked to Manny and him and Edgy would do the fire pit together. But never got Edgys number. Ugh. Oh well, maybe tomorrow will bring a flurry of activity?

Glass beads were $1500 for just the bottom. So I would imagine the spa would be around $800 ish. Reading now, the shells seem to add a lot of sparkle too so hoping he comes back with a lower number for them.

Well we had 2.5 days of cooler and DRY weather after over a week of rain and all the promised work wasnt done, just the one column and partial grout of the wall and it isn't grouted correctly. It has already poured rain this afternoon and what does this week call for? 60%+ thunderstorms every single day this week. If subs aren't working during the week bc of the weather, wouldn't they work on the weekends to catch up? Our dig crew worked Sat and Sun to get the job done on time and correctly. Seems they are the only ones to work that way. We are not holding our breath for tomorrow or this week. We are tired of being promised work will be done and then no shows. At least if we don't get our hopes up we cant be disappointed.

Well at least we can provide some positive news. Yesterday we put our bowl molds together and mixed the concrete and poured our bowls. I was hopeful it would come out well and today was the day to release the molds. I had read metal bowls can be harder to get to release but as soon as I unscrewed my bolt the top one came out and then flipped the bowl over, lightly tapped with the rubber mallet and the big bowl released. Very happy with how it came out. We need to sand it to even out the top and smooth out one area where it is more rough from the sand in the mix but super happy with what we made! We are going to try a different mortar mix and also different stains to see what we like and then make the 2nd one for the other column once we figure out what we like. Yay! Less than $120 for multiple bowls.

After taking out the smaller inner bowl but before releasing the big outer bowl. I wanted a pic in case it cracked lol

This darker area is where it seems it was a little drier than the other mix as it is rough and sandy. The other areas are as smooth as polished marble.

Released and flipped!

Haha I need to get some abalone shells!! But yes, we made it! When I was in high school we made reef balls which are placed in the ocean off the coast of Jacksonville as an artificial reef. We used 3 different size forms, 3 foot, 4 foot, and 5 foot tall and wide. Diver bouy balloons inside to make the holes and then the cement trucks came and we used mallets to get the air bubbles out. Just like this bowl. I actually found a website that had found a pretty good process with the bowls and securing the molds with bolts to ensure uniform thickness.

For color, various shades of a darker grey. Not too dark but to contrast the silver travertine. I found a etching stain at Lowes and it is a grey blue color but I think it is too light.

Oh and I forgot. It is 21" across at the top. We found one place that sells the plain concrete bowls locally but they are $125 each and the smallest is 24" and that will be too big for our columns.

So Monday came and went as well and no one showed except the original dig crew guys who set the bubblers as they needed to be tweaked. They said they drive by our house all the time and cannot believe there isnt a cage up already and that subs are off working other builds that were started after ours while ours sits here with no progress. We started in Feb and builds started in April or May have our subs there instead of here. The new construction manager has been calling the head tile guy and still, for days, he will not answer. The coping crew showed up finally today and said the tile guy was at another job today. A build that started after ours. Frustration is growing and hubby dished it out to the construction manager today. He understands it isn't his fault as he cant even get in touch with the tile guy but we have to vent to someone. Apparently it is difficult to find tile and stone work crews that can do such good work. However one of the guys from the dig crew saw our glass tile wall where they did not install it per Lightstream instructions and you can see the trowel marks through the glass and it looks awful. He said he has done tile work before and it isnt acceptable to see it through the glass. The fact you can't see it from 6 feet away is besides the point. We know it is there. We see it. It is a small detail but that is the different between standard quality and high quality. Ugh.

For some positive news, the coping crew who promised to be here Sat and no showed and then promised Monday and no showed again FINALLY showed up today. All for the head guy to explain to his worker how to lay the sailor pattern and then he left his one worker here alone. That could have been handled on Friday. Anyway, coping is up on the pool and he was starting to float out the top of the spa to prep for that coping. He did a very good job getting these 12" pieces around the curves so that makes me feel better. They are saying they will be busting out the existing concrete patio on Friday and I am not sure exactly when that means deck will be laid bc again, there is a specific time when the termite stuff has to be sprayed.

Here is the pool coping. I will check in a bit and see if he started on the spa.
