New Build in NE FL

Aspevero, wow that does look a lot like the same design! We finalized our plans with 18" square columns and 36" tall and 24" square coping on the top of the columns, then 10 foot long wall that is 12" deep and 24" tall. We are doing fire bowls on the top of the columns and a 4 foot sheer decent with LED lights.

Today we had rebar, pvc, wood for forming, etc delivered today along with the backhoe. They are coming out tomorrow to scrape and form out the pool but not dig bc we are getting rain Wed and then will dig Thurs. Inspection on Monday and should shoot Tues or Wed.

We opted not to go larger on the columns bc we have a 3 foot walkway on that back edge and since we are having a screen enclosure, we wanted to make sure if we needed to get back there, we could walk behind tbe columns and wall. It isnt an area that will be used often but we wanted the option of walking there open. The columns are being formed out with cinder blocks after we do the concrete so we can move the columns around to see if we want them flush with the pool or set back a tiny bit so the stone doesn't over hang the pool. So if we start forming them and decide to make them bigger, we can, but it will be a little ways out.

Well they scraped and framed out the pool today. Also went ahead and dug down to 7 feet to see if they were in water. Thankfully we had a very dry 2016 and then a dry winter so no water. They were worried bc we have a pond near the pool but I explained that it wasn't a spring fed pond so not a good way to gauge the water level. We have amazing soil with a great sandy loam mix under the clay layer.

They went ahead and shot the grade to match the existing porch and did the wood frame.

Also, they put a net fence around the tree directly behind the house bc apparently the permit from the environmental dept required it. PB sent photos of the fence to that dept yet the arborist insists on coming out here tomorrow. I am worried she's going to halt production bc when we were discussing the tree a month ago, I thought the pool was about 7 feet more to the left than it really is. However, she had the plans so could clearly see where the pool was. Anyway... I am just very, very worried about tomorrows visit. If we can get past this stupid tree stuff, we will be good to go.

Praying it doesn't rain too much tomorrow so we won't have issues digging Thurs...if we aren't shut down from the tree lady.

This shows where the pool edge is and the drip line of the tree which is only like 3 or 4 feet under the drip line so really hoping she doesn't veto this even though she signed off on the permit

I want to back up some......................"it is 7 feet to more to the left than it really is".............Is the pool where YOU want it? NOW is the time to move the forms if it is not. Why did you think it would be at place A? Are you sure they diggers did not make a mistake by putting it in place B?

I will be on the look out for your post about the tree lady! DON'T chat with her about the tree and the placement. You do NOT want to put any ideas in her head. Be very polite and act as if this is right were it should be as shown on the permit! Let her do the talking. You keep pointing to the permit "see just like on the permit" with a big smile and a offer of coffee, tea, or Pepsi! Throw in some cookies and you should be good!

 how stressful to have to try to sleep with last night I bet!

Looks like the pool location is beyond the drip-edge of the big tree, especially since it looks like you've done some trimming of overhead branches on that side. That's usually the determining factor. Just assure her that any roots encountered in the dig will be properly pruned and treated at the edge of the excavation.

The pool is in the correct place. But when I was talking to her a month ago, I thought it was further over. But after looking at the proposal, it is in the right spot. I think I was thinking of a different proposal we got where they had the pool all the way over and had no deck on the far side.

I noticed the pool was only a few fert under the drip line as well and the branches we trimmed were shorter length wise than the ones we left so we didn't bring the drip line in any.

So far it is 11:45am and no tree lady though we did get some gravel delivered.

Still crossing my fingers and toes that she doesn't halt work. I mean, nothing has changed since the permit and the fence is up, per their request. Sigh.

Other than that, we are happy with the pool. At first I was a tad concerned with how close it was to the house but then remember we have an 8 inch shell and then plaster and paver coping so we have around 10" more space off of the house once everything is said and done.

Also, looks like the big storm stayed north so we might get some rain today but not the heavy stuff they were predicting thankfully.

The wind has been unreal today but NO rain for us either. Was quite worried with what it did to others. Looks like our Gulf winds pushed it up and away! SWEET!

Hoping the tree lady shows up so we can all breath a sigh of relief!

Tree lady's assistant came by today. I met her the first time when she was out measuring the tree. Quiet, timid lady so I felt better about seeing her. She only wants the fence closer to the pool, to cover as much of the drip line as possible, but did not halt us thankfully and signed off on the permit.

Digging starts around 730-8am tomorrow. And still, no rain!

Digging started around 8am today. There is a tiny bit of water where the clay layer is but under that is sand and it is dry. They put some gravel down to help with the water but it isnt bad. Right now, there are some cave ins esp on the back wall. But overall, going well.

We asked them to make the transition to the deep end a little sooner than normal so the deep end would be larger since the shallow end and sun shelf are a decent size. These 2 guys do the framing, digging, rebar, drains, etc. They have been great so far.

So far so good. Will update with more pics once they finish up for the day.

Little bit of water. I think all the different soil layers are pretty. But here you can see the beginning of a crack that started a big cave in

You have some neat soil! Look at all of the different layers! That is cool! Thanks for that picture!

ugggggg on the cave in but that is easy to fix!

Two guys do it all???? Man they must sleep REAL good at the end of a day!

I feel for these guys with the cave ins. They left for the day and they have to bring some extra Osb tomorrow to fix this cave in ordeal. They have to get it ready for inspection on Monday and shotcrete Tuesday! These guys are great so far good Ole boys that love you talk fishing and ita cool to hear all of the different pool experiences during different types digs etc.

Pics of the cave ins. They will be moving the wood back so that the walls will be vertical, not tapered inwards like they are now. Poor guys are working hard.
