New Build - Central California

Great design and layout with your house! Everything is going to look terrific! Your guys are precious. How many years (or months) apart are they?

You gotta have mud with a pool build! Maybe not too much, though.

Take care,
Suz

Thanks :). We are super excited about the whole thing. Our boys are 6 and 8. Lots of destruction before lots of awesome ;)

With our structure and other pieces it'll be a long project. The good news is that our pool will be a refreshing break as we do all the other (landscaping, building etc...) work!!

Oh how I love central California, just the color of your dirt ❤️lol. I went to college on the central coast and never quite got it out of my blood. I'm looking forward to this build I love the plan - it's going to be beautiful.

We are blessed with great soil out here. I can't even explain how many roots we are cutting through in our backyard - this grow like crazy! We took out a TON of trees and will be adding a bunch more:

I'm starting to wonder if we need to do a bit of a deep rip or discing in the back yard to tear up some of the old stuff before we plant everything. Ideally, we'd get that done before the concrete goes in. Gotta make a few phone calls it seems!

Bit of rain last night, so we have a giant mud yard right now - pretty fun. I'm sure my boys will get a kick out of getting just insanely dirty in it later tonight.

I love trees. You love trees. Just be sure to consider how much you will love all those trees 20 years from now next to your pool. Shade on the water may be good for you in central CA, not here in MD. But debris isn't good for anyone anywhere. Thoughtfully chosen trees are probably the best compromise. Some trees are great over a lawn because their debris is small and insignificant. That small stuff can be annoying too. I cut down one such tree. The tiny leaflets would stick to the tile just above the waterline and not get to the skimmer all summer long.

I don't know if it was discussed earlier, but you couldn't pay me to go with a suction or pressure side cleaner in 2017. Robots are the future. Many like these...Doheny's Discovery

SWEET! One build already had the gunite shot when they found TFP. They came here to find a fix since their pool was too shallow :( They have not been back so I don't now if or how they fixed it. Better to check NOW when it is fixable! GOOD JOB!

Totally! Thanks for the tip!

I'm considering doing an intellichem for the pool, any opinions here? Totally planning to manage it all myself - seems like auto balanced ph and liquid chlorine injection would be great. We are opting not for swg right now.

Liquid chlorine for sure but NOT the auto balance PH. The PH messing up can cause major problems and it tends to as seen from past users. You can do a search in the box at the top of the page to see what others have to say.

We passed inspection Friday, gunite is set for Monday.

This morning was relatively uneventful. Capped off an old galvanized pipe that was for the irrigation system (dead off the main....... ugh.) We will he replacing all of the exterior plumbing during this project. Scraping it all to dirt ;)

While gunite is being shot, I'll be out with the excavation crew digging up some more of the yard and removing some more tree roots. I think we'll also do final demo on the front yard early next week. Should be eventful!
