New (and first ever) Pool! Dallas, TX

The guy who seemed to know the most English isn’t around anymore so I couldn’t ask about the dye unfortunately.

Thank you!! I’m about to read up on them again.

To get a good start, measure your fill water. If using city water from your house, check out of tap. City water around the area will vary. This will give you a good idea of your starting point. In this area, many municipalities have tap water CH 120-150, ph 8+, ca 41-45, TA 90-130. Your city most likely has a water quality report online with values to compare your readings out of the tap. You will most likely need chemicals on hand before fill complete unless your pool builder is doing the startup.

Some folks at classic recommended using a sequestering agent at fill start.

Most likely classic will come back tomorrow (rain not sure) and do an acid wash then start fill.

All the best

Thanks a lot! I talked to the pool builder quickly and they are going to send us the post plaster information and discuss it this afternoon with us. I think they do the first month of maintenance or something like that. I have to confirm with the contract.

In the meantime I need to figure out what I need to test the water with!

Wish they would stop using that torch. Not sure the good it’s doing.
Your pool looks nice. Did classic do the tile and coping?
Haha ya I was wondering what the torch was for..

Thanks! No it was southwestern (or southwest?) tile and coping

@onBalance , I believe he can explain better than I about the pros and cons of torching. Weather warm. Low 70’s

Plaster pics album! There are a couple brownish lines and I am not sure if that’s a big deal or not. But I included a pic. They also cut these stone circles for the skimmers? I think, that is funny to me. I wasn’t expecting that. Woohoo!!! Looks like we’re basically done with this whole process now!

PB is stopping by for their last check later.

I can’t tell for sure, but maybe when they washed off the coping some dirt or minerals from the flagstone flowed into the pool. Can’t tell what’s in the bottom of the spa.

The Fred Flintstone skimmer lids are cool.
Hm, hopefully it won’t stain or won’t be noticeable.

Haha ya they’re kind of crazy. I’m curious to see how we are supposed to lift them up. But it’s a nice touch considering we aren’t doing decking.

I am concerned about the torching.
It is necessary to have water present to properly hydrate the cement, and torching (high heat) may remove the water and stops the hydration process. So it depends on how much and how hot the cement is heated by the torch on whether it is detrimental or not.
Make a note where torching took place for future reference in case there is any discoloration issues.

Thanks for the info! I’ll make a note that it was installed that way, but I think they used it everywhere from what I can tell...

And now it’s pouring!! And supposed to be raining for the next 36 hours as far as I can tell.

The pool builder said we are supposed to get an acid wash tomorrow then they will come do the initial fill and startup. Seems like the bottom of the pool will be pretty full from the rain, and they won’t be able to do the acid wash just yet! Hopefully it doesn’t get a ring around it from the rainwater.

So we have almost a foot of rain in the deep end halfway up to the shallow end, the acid wash was moved to tomorrow so they’ll pump it out and acid wash and start filling. I wish we were a day earlier so we could take advantage of that rain water haha! Oh well, looking forward to tomorrow!

Oh dear I hope it doesn’t too! Well, whatever makes them work faster I’ll take it! I was shocked how full it was this morning already.
