New to pools. I am trying to figure out the results of my test strips. I have 0 TC, 3 FC, 7.2PH, 120 ALK amd 50 CYA. Does this mean I have 3 CC and need to shock? TIA.

Hello and welcome to TFP! Here at TFP the reply will be unanimous .... toss the strips in the trash. They are horrible and unreliable. Get yourself a TF-100 (link below in my signature) or Taylor K-2006C test kit. Reliability stars there.

While waiting for your kit, bookmark and review our Pool Care Basics page. Just about everything you need to know is in that link. Of course we're here to assist with any questions.

Also be sure to update your signature with all of your pool and equipment info. See my sig below as an example. It helps with each of your posts.

Last, consider installing and subscribing to the PoolMath APP. It's a fantastic tool to help you with pool chemistry management.

Welcome Wookiee,

I think you have just proven for yourself how unreliable test strips actually are. It is impossible to have 3 FC and 0 TC in the same sample. Total Chlorine by definition is the sum of FC and CC, thus could not be zero with FC of 3.
