My pump bearings are going out & the pump has recently started to howl pretty bad. I'm thinking since I have to replace it & I might as well get a better pump if it makes $$ sense to do so. Currently I have a 1 1/2 hp single speed. Iv'e heard the intelliflow variable speed is a good way to go. What are some of the better trouble free pumps out there? The variable speed pumps cost quite a bit more, local pool store quote was $1200-$1800 for a new variable pump complete assembly or about $400 to put a new motor & seals on my existing assembly. I live in South Florida so my pool is open year round, how long, can I expect it to take before I see a return on the extra cost of the variable speed & how long do these things typically last?
