Value of Variable Speed Pump for an Inground Spa

Hi All,

Do you think it is worth replacing a single speed 1 hp pump with a variable speed pump on an inground spa that is less than 1000 gallons? My single speed is leaking and needs to be repaired. My pool guy says it will be about $150 to repair, so not a big deal, but I'm wondering if I should take this opportunity to replace it with a reasonably priced variable speed pump as my area has rebates right now. However, I'm thinking the energy savings probably isn't worth it given that the spa is less than 1000 gallons so the single speed doesn't need to be run that long anyway.

I do have a variable speed pump on my pool 28000 gallons, which is completely separate and I love it. I run it 24 hours a day at different speeds and electric bill is a lot lower since I installed it.

Any opinions?

Thank you!

If the spa pump flows water out of your spa jets low flow energy savings will not give you the spa jet experience you likely want. A VS pump running at a high speed to give good jet pressure gives little savings.

Repair your 1HP pump.
