Okay, great! Do I test the CC now? I’m going to head out shortly to clean the filter/pump like you said. How often should I do this?
Sounds good. I’m cleaning and brushing today. Now I should continue to check FC every couple hrs and maintain at 12, correct?Even if you failed the CCs and clarity test that’s GREAT news as it means the FC had less to kill. Now. Prepare yourself mentally because sometimes brushing stirs and exposes more algae and you end up doing ‘worse’ tomorrow or a couple days from now. Don’t get bummed about it. It’s still progress.![]()
This was my experience as well. Also, keep the ladder out of the pool when you are cleaning and when you get out, take it out again and clean the ladder. I had green deposits in my pool after putting the ladder in and leaving it there. Took the rubber nubs off and there was stagnate water.Prepare yourself mentally because sometimes brushing stirs and exposes more algae and you end up doing ‘worse’ tomorrow or a couple days from now. Will do! It was late last night lolContinue FC check and maintain 12 until you have met all three criteria.
Yes, you can do CC test now, but not necessary because your pool is not clear. Save the reagents. Start your CC test when the pool clears.
Re-read my method for cleaning the filter. You will want to note the pressure after you clean this morning. When the pressure rises 15 PSI over the clean pressure, then clean again.
Yes we do. I can ask my hubby when he gets home from work. Great idea! You have two pumps and filters right?
You have two suction ports right?
Do you have enough hoses to hook up both and run them? Twice the filtration couldn't hurt. With one return jet you could tie the return from the second pump to the railing of the pool for the return. just a thought.
I did remove the ladder the other day. I left it in last night but I will remove when not in use. This was my experience as well. Bravo on getting this far OP. Good job.
Okay so I’m out here now and just followed your instructions. After I switched to backwash and turned back on, a lot more water came out with sand. Is that correct? The other thing is I have no “rinse” so I put into position where the white block is because it continued to put out water, just not as much as backwash. Then went to filter and turned on. PSI is at 5 currently.Ok, so assuming that replacing the filter/pump isn't an option, here is my recommendation:
1) Read the manual on the Pump/Filter --> Manual on Filter/Pump page 14. the following is a reprint from the instructions.
2) When you have the time, do the procedure on page 14.
a) Stop the pump.
b) Move the handle to "Backwash."
c) Turn on the pump and run until the water is clear (not perfect, say 80% clearer than the cloudiest you see). Might be 30 seconds to 3 minutes +/-
d) Turn off pump.
e) Turn the handle to "Rinse." Run again until you see it run a bit clear (80% better), likely no longer than 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
f) Turn off the pump.
g) turn the handle to "Filter"
h) turn on the pump
i) NOTE THE PRESSURE.
j) When the filter pressure is 15 PSI higher than reading from i), do this procedure again.
k) replace water as needed.
Follow this procedure and you will clean the filter as often as necessary. Any more backwashing is unnecessary. Let the filter do the job!
This process is the best you can do with the filter you have. Keep the SLAM up.
I think you did great.Okay so I’m out here now and just followed your instructions. After I switched to backwash and turned back on, a lot more water came out with sand. Is that correct? In the pic, backwash is covered and the white space I used is between filter and recirculate.
Thanks!I think you did great.
How much sand came out? Did you originally fill the filter with sand per the instructions?
Though the instructions indicate a Rinse, it may not have a "rinse," and I'm not sure that the white space is actually rinse. You likely didn't hurt anything and you got the backwash done.
Now...do NOT backwash again...until --> Usually the recommendation is not to backwash again until the pressure rises 25%. In your case that would be about 6.5psi. The instruction manual indicates 14.5 to 21 PSI HIGHER than the reading right after backwashing. I think you should follow the manual. Leave the filter alone until the PSI gets between 18 and 20. Then backwash again.
Thank you for the tip. He is out there now getting them both going! You have two pumps and filters right?

You are very welcomeThank you for the tip. He is out there now getting them both going
Here are my results this mornI just read through this whole thread and have to echo what Cuckoo says a few times above: run another CYA test. If you measured 40, whether practicing or not, your SLAM level should be 16.

I didn’t test cc. Accidentally tossed the water and I’m about halfway thru the bottle of 0871, so I will test that later this afternoon.
Pool is looking a little clearer this morn. Still have dust settled so I plan on trying to vacuum today. I haven’t done since Thursday eve but have been brushing and rinsing filter.
Exactly. No need for CCs or OCLTs until the water is clear. Also, you don't have to test anything but FC during slam. Save the reagents. pH is inaccurate test at anything above 10.
