Motor corrosion

Quick question hopefully.

I replaced my motor in Dec of 2020 and I've notice corrosion building up. See picture.

I do live on the coast and there are time I've had pool water splash up on the pump. I have a SWG. Is this normal of a sign of a leak or another problem.

Thank you in advance.

A thin film on the surface is normal. Deeper corrosion or pitted I would be alerted to something else going on. A visual check of your wiring and bonding cable might be in order.

Probably a seal leak.

Look under the pump with a flashlight to see if it is dripping.

There's a gap under the seal plate that makes it easy to see a drip if you have good light and the right angle.

Be careful around a working motor and wear eye protection.

Ok, I don't see a drip.

Keep checking periodically.

You had corrosion before, so maybe it's a seal leak or maybe some sort of stray current.

Is the motor properly bonded?

Disconnect the bond wire from the motor and check to see if there is a measurable amount of voltage between the motor bond lug and the bond wire.

This clear spot looks like a place where water has been dripping.

Around the spot, you can see calcium carbonate from the water when the water evaporates.

I would replace the seal with a good seal.

What seal did you use last time?

I bought everything from inyopool.

I don't mind changing it out again to be safe. Is that a good choice?

The PS-1902 is actually the best seal.

The PS-1902 has a Silicon Carbide Primary Ring and a Silicon Carbide Seat.

It's more expensive, but if it can save a motor or save the cost of your time to replace the seal again, the cost difference is probably a good investment.

What is the total hp of the motor?

I would not increase the impeller.

What's wrong with the flow?
1.65hp

I have this

It was suggested that I upgrade it when I installed. Here's the thread
