Pump question

I have a Hayward super pump. It’s about 3 years old. We purchased the house last year. We have been having problems with the gfci tripping and the electrician tested everything and said there must be water getting into the pump somehow. Then all of a sudden the pump for very loud. Upon inspection I noticed what looks like corrosion.

I assume the picture attached is not normal?

I also assume this means I need a new pump? Is this how long a pump is supposed to last?

Any suggestions on what I can replace with from Dohenys? Model is C48k2n143b1

Have you been in the house less than a year? Did you get a home warranty from the seller that includes pool equipment? Most policies are 1 year from your purchase date but you can extend it. If you have it, you may want to call them and have it covered under that warranty program.
You can also call www.inyopools.com to ask for the best replacement motor.

It looks like a common seal leak. A seal leak will get water in the motor and ruin the bearings.

Can you show a picture of the pump label as shown in this picture?

I think that this is probably the pump you have.

I think that this is the motor you need.

You would also need a seal kit.

There are plenty of videos on YouTube about replacing the motor on a Hayward Superpump.

Yes that looks like the right pump.

I assume the motor is beyond repair? Or can I replace the seal kit and bearings?

If I replace the motor could I get a multi speed?

I think that the current motor is gone.

Assuming your current pump has enough flow, you could go with a 1.25 total hp variable speed motor.

If you want more flow, you can go up to 1.65 hp and a larger impeller.

Is that because of the corrosion? Pumps don’t normally look like that right?

I think that the seal has probably been leaking for a long time.

You have to check periodically to see if the seal is leaking to prevent the motor from getting ruined.

inyopool has this 1.65 up motor which looks like a fit. (Link below) And for $399 that seems like a good deal. They don’t have a 1.25 variable speed that I could find.

My question is I would need to upgrade the impeller? But would that fit in my current pump?

Also is there any problem with increasing the flow on the pool? I assume that would just shorten the turn time or allow you to run slower?

Thank you for all of your help. Merry Christmas to all.

The 1.65 hp should work for you.

I would replace the impeller with the SPX-2610C for best performance.

It will allow you to use a slower rpm for the same flow rate.

Note that the V-green motor takes 230 volts. So you need to verify that your voltage is 230 and not 115.

That’s 230/240 for sure, so you are good to go. Some variable speed pumps have a habit of kicking GFCI breakers (the kind with the test button like is in your poolside panel) if they are not exactly the right one. For example, Pentair has a very specific breaker they want you to use to avoid phantom trips. I’m not sure if this would happen with a replacement motor, but I would guess that it could. I would use the one you have first. If it has a problem tripping randomly, you may want to see what the motor manufacturer recommends before buying a new breaker. It will not hurt anything for the breaker to trip - you can just flip it back on and you’ll be good to go.

Me again. Replaced my motor, iwas in pretty bad shape. After the install motor seems to be working fine but I’m getting 0 pressure on my filter. It’s possible it was reading that before I swapped the motor out.

Suggestions of trouble shooting? I backwashed, nothing appears clogged. Water level is good.
