Low voltage wiring

Exterior rated 18 or 20 gauge or larger (14 or 16)
If you have any underground low voltage wire used for landscaping, or any wire cut from the the pool lights, you can use it.

What heater are you connecting to?

Page 36 in the Pentair MasterTemp manual https://www.pentair.com/content/dam...p/manual/Manual-MasterTemp-472592-English.pdf says

Use 18 gauge wire with a minimum 3/64” (1.2mm) thick insulation rated for a temperature rise of at least 105°C.

The insulation and thickness is important as we have seen people with inferior wire where the insulation has melted from the heater heat and shorted the connection.

You should be referencing the manuals for the equipment you are installing. There is a lot of important information in it if you want to do it right.
