Hi, Longtime pool owner, learn a little every year for 38 yrs. Under control for the most part, but trying to understand why lack of vac suction & flow thru filter this season.
Pac Fab Nautilus stainless DE vertical model #'s gone. Pretty well maintained, all elements replaced, cleaned and stored every season, Pressure gauge is old, yellow, and showing little over 0 when filtering.
I suspect internal air bleed screen on top of manifold may be impeding flow because it is crushed???, or maybe overloaded with DE? Pressure and flow are great when re-circulating, but drop to almost ineffective for vacuum when filtering.
Haven't backwashed yet, but just opened pool recently. Should DE be added after each backwash? Thanks for any comment. Larry

Hi Larry and welcome  What you are describing sounds quite a bit like algae beginning to bloom. Do you have a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C test kit so we could see a full set of results? If you have algae, even in its transparent stage, your filter (especially DE) will clog-up fast. If you backwash and the water flow improves for a short time before getting slow again, my bet is on algae.
