Looking to upgrade Aqualink RS12 by using IQ30-RS kit

Hello TFP folks,

I was hoping someone could help answer this question I've been researching for about a month now and no solid answer. I currently have an Aqualink RS12 setup with auxiliary Power Center (actually using 9 relays). They CPU version is on "K", really old and want to bring it into the modern age. I want to convert this system to WiFi so we don't have to use that crappy one touch screens, not to mention they are starting to Crud out. I'm an electrician by trade so I understand all the electric risks and challenges of high and low voltage and how the relays work etc...

My question is, can I use the IQ30-RS kit (looks to be RS8 equivalent) and be able to connect my auxiliary power center as it was? I don't believe I need to upgrade that board but just trying to confirm. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You have to replace your existing board. A quick call to Jandy revealed that, while your existing board is too old, the iQ30-RS upgrade kit chip can be flashed to an RS12, over the air after, installation. The tech said no charge to do so. I love learning new things as I have a customer with an RS16 that has been hinting they might like to do the same.

Thanks so much 1poolman1. So by "replace your existing board" you mean only on the main PCB using the IQ30-RS board that comes with the kit. After that I can get the IQ30-RS board firmware flashed to RS12 and will allow me to use the auxiliary Power center without any hardware or firmware changes to it. Correct?

Really appreciate the help.

That's what I was told by a Jandy "RS Tech." The main board will have a 50-pin daughter board on the back that contains the processor. Your existing board likely has the chip in a socket like computer motherboards (at least they used to, haven't built one in 10 years). The auxiliary board is controlled by the main through the red 4-port communication 485 connector on the upper left. There will be two of those on the new board.

Hi, I just wanted to update everyone. After installing the new board (iQ30-RS) I registered my device and sent support an email ([email protected]) and explained that I needed and upgrade to RS12. The system was acting funny before that, it would turn on AUX1 on the main board and AUX1 on the expansion board at the same time, and AUX2 with AUX2, etc... Anyhow, within a couple days, I got an email saying they upgraded me! they were able to just upgrade it because the device was registered and on the WIFI. So now everything is working as it was before with the old RS12 plus now I have the new board with WIFI.
