Hi. I have inherited a home with an in-ground concrete pool built in the mid-1960s. The pool light hasn’t been turned on in years. When I tried it, it burnt for under a minute and fizzled out. The electrician seems to think the electrical is fine. My mom was under the impression that the lightbulb could easily be replaced, but our pool cleaner company said the whole light fixture would need to come out and they could replace it for $1k. Does that seem accurate? Does that seem like a fair price? Thank you for any insight.

Hey New and Welcome !!!

To me that's a good sign. If the wiring was bad it probably wouldn't have come on. Or. A slight short took a minute to arc itself solid.

They typically can be but some find the parts for their model discontinued. You need to replace the gaskets anytime you open it. Or the 63 year old screws are stripped/seized.

That's a fair price. The light is about $400 online at large retailers and a small company probably pays more than that, plus labor.

There’s a rubber seal on the outer glass that prevents water from getting inside to the bulb. The seal probably failed and let water in. Once the light turns on it can burn out fairly quickly,
