Light Gaskets - is there an "inside" and an "outside?"

Good morning team -

The other day, as part of our pool resurfacing and renewal project, I upgraded the Pentair Intellibrites in our pool and spa to the Florida Sunseeker LED systems. The spa is working just fine, but the gasket on the pool light started leaking water after a few days and wound up intermittently shorting out the light, with water rising about halfway into the housing.

Sunseeker wouldn't honor the warranty but was willing to sell me a replacement at wholesale, and it will delivered Wednesday. The customer rep told me that the gaskets have some sort of "raised bump" to denote which side faces outward. Unfortunately, they could not specify any further nor could anyone send me a photo so I know what to look for. To my eyes, both sides of the gasket are identical and there is no clear indication that one side is supposed to face outward.

Can anyone please help me with this? I've replaced lights at least three or four times and never run into any issues before with any previous gasket replacements. Would appreciate your thoughts - thank you.

If both sides are the same, it doesn't matter. If there is a side that has to face one way or the other it is usually on the gasket itself. Look for an arrow or lettering on the outside diameter if there is a a special way to install the gasket. When new lights leak it is usually from the clamp having loosened. It is always good practice to be sure any method that is used to seal the light is tight. I have found many lights with loose clamps right out of the box.
