Left for a business trip and things are a bit wonky now

When I got home and uncovered the pool, it was a bit cloudy. Not enough to not see the bottom, but not that crystal clear water I'm used to seeing. Looks like my CH is high. My FC was definitely low. I added a gallon of 12.5% bleach and will retest this evening.

Thoughts?

1 gallon of 12.5% will raise your FC by 4.2. Your target FC is 5-7. I would put in another 1/2 - 1 gallon and get your FC up to around 9 for a few days and see if the pool clears up.

That's a good idea. Being as new as I am, I think I've been babying it in terms of not pushing it. I'll add the extra .5 gal and make sure the job gets done.

You're right, I did. :-/ Okay, I'll do it.

Question, how long in general do I need to wait before retesting? If I have my pump running, can I test five hours later and expect accurate results?

at first, i’d check every couple of hours and add chlorine to stay at slam level. the more you check, the faster you’ll be done. of course life gets in the way, so just do the best you can

I think a few days of elevated chlorine may clear it up before you go for a full SLAM Process

Keep your FC around 9 for a few days and then do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test and see if the pool is clear and it passes.
