Leave SWG plugged in? Not sure

Bummer. Did you use a 10 mL sample? The instructions are a bit misleading...i.e. "fill 25 mL cylinder sample tube to 10 mL line" or something like that.

Does 2,800 ppm seem high to you?

Yes I used 10ml. Using my pool math logs, the salt should be around 1600. So this is about 1000 more. I had a whole RO when I started taking care of my pool and only add liquid chlorine and MA and CYA as needed. Not sure where else salt could come from. I do have my RV water softener which has salt in it, but I’m not sure that salt makes it to the pool when I’m doing an evaporation top off.

The softener should add no salt. My reagents exp in 2021, but still provide expected results. Your result seems unreasonably high so I would wait. :(
I agree. It will be interesting to see what salt levels I get from the unexpired tests ordered from TFP. Order has been placed, so hopefully they will come soon. I will update with that information.

While I wouldn't dose from it, if the bottles have been capped and stored in a climate controlled environment, silver nitrate should be good for ages. It's probably right, or close.

Ain't that some 'stuff' if you had a salt pool all along. Your poor patio must be RUINED. :laughblue:

That is a good point. I cannot know how these were stored, but the kit was new so there’s that. If my new results are in line with pool math once I get my unexpired salt test kit, that would be a testament to the calculations in poolmath. If not, well, at least my test can be relied on! 🙂

And omg, you made me look at my patio. Fortunately all good. 😆

If there is not enough salt in the pool, and I have my ic60 on a schedule, will it just say “low salt” and not turn on? I don’t see an off button. I can’t get a close look at this moment because the guy already thinks I’m a psycho.

Correct. It will run a self check at statrup if the flow switch is activated and then shut off with the low salt light being red. It won't test again for 12 hours unless you cycle power.

Is that switch inside the salt cell? Or is that something I have to activate? I don’t see anything on this giant thing.

IIRC, you did RO last year. Did you get a salt level from the company after the RO?
I did RO at the end of December 2021 and starting taking care of my pool immediately after. No, I did not receive a salt measurement after. I was told the total dissolved solids were down to whatever number is low. I do not recall exactly and do not have anything in writing. Immediately following RO I did a full set of tests, but did not do a salt test because I didn’t see a need at the time as I was going to use only liquid chlorine.

My guess was that RO also removes salt? I did RO to get my CYA/Calcium down (which it did do) without draining. But I do not know about the effect on salt.

Alright folks. New heater and new SWG is in. Now I am just waiting for my new salt kit so I can move forward with salt addition.
