Keeping Pool Open over Winter b/c of Spa

This is our first winter with our pool! Our spa is situated in a corner of our pool and level with our pool, and I believe circulates through the same water as the pool. We live in NC, where the weather stays fairly mild over winter. Since we want to use the spa over winter, I feel like we can't actually "close" the pool. Thoughts?

If we do need to close the pool, how would we do this and not sacrifice use of the spa? I was planning on keeping up with the pool chemicals all winter long so the spa chemicals would be adequate (since I think they circulate together). Is this necessary, or can we put the acid and chlorine into the spa only on the days we are using the spa?
Thank you!

That looks like single body of water pool/spa. I don't think you can close the pool and keep the spa open. It is all or none. Can you show a picture of your (labeled) valves?

You can't separate your spa from your pool with your design.

Keep it all open or close it all.

I hope you have a warm winter if you try and keep it open.

What model heater do you have?

Do you have a pool cover?

I can definitely get a picture of the labeled valves. In the meantime, here's a picture of the underground plumbing to the valves. Does this make any sense to you?
