Jandy Salt Cell - Pump Won't Reprime on Automatic Mode After Cleaning Salt Cell

Hi, I just bought a house with a Jandy saltwater pool system, and I'm still learning the ropes. I recently cleaned the salt cell with a muriatic acid solution, as there was significant scaling. When I placed the cell back on the pump, however, the pump stopped priming on its own, i.e. when the pool pump is in "Automatic" mode.

The pump will, however reprime when I let air out of the pump through the air bleed valve and switch the pump on manually in "Service" mode; the salt cell functions and the prime fills quickly and stays full. However, any time I return it to the "Automatic" mode, I return to find the prime gone and the salt cell generator reading "No Flow."

Any ideas about what's going on here? This didn't happen before I cleaned the cell, but I had previously removed the cell to inspect it and everything continued working fine. I've also cleaned out the pump filter basket and skimmer, and as I said, the pump works fine if I leave it on. Thanks!

Welcome to TFP.

Lube the O rings on the cell unions with Pool Lube.

Did you take the pump lid off when you cleaned the cell? Lube the pump lid O ring with Pool Lube.

You may also want to check for a suction side air leak that coincidentally developed...
