hello all,

I was wondering if you can kindly help me out with filter and spa pump replacements.
Current Specs:
42K gallon Pool. (POOL: two skimmers/1 Floor main drain, 3 returns) (SPA: one Floor drain, 8 jets, 2 returns)
jandy Filter pump 1.65HP single speed installed bout 2005ish ( looks like an old school Stealth. label states RPM: 3450, Volts 208-230/115)
Spa pump (3 inch outlet) 3.45HP single speed pump. (looks like an old school Stealth. label states label states RPM: 3450, Volts 208-230 only)
Jandy JXI heater 400K btu
CL Filter (580sq/ft)
Standard Air blower.
Linked to IQ-3.0.
two JVA's.

Looking to see which VS jandy pump recommendation to replace the Filter Pump and the spa pump? I'm getting some outrageous quotes in the NY tristate area. i'm pretty handy and tech savy (also have a plumber/pool service tech/electrician on standby to assist). Just want to make the right decision on pumps.

Many thanks for the advance help/advise/suggestions!

Regards.

Due to D.O.E. regulations, you are going to have to go with a VSP, and they are very expensive now. If you have the right software revision on your Jandy, you could use a Pentair VSP as well.

1Poolman1. Thanks. Yes, I figured it would have to be VS pump. Prefer to keep it jandy. Would you have any recc on which pump to buy. Should I keep it with the same HP? like the Jandy VS 1.65 or the 1.85HP for the filter pump. and for the SPA..should I do the 3.8HP VS pump?

Usually, it is better to use the higher horsepower pump, turned to lower rpms (lower total horsepower), for the pool with long filter runs. That is the best way to save energy (money). It can be done with a lower total horsepower pump for the pool, but it may need to run at a higher RPM.

How many jets in the spa? A 1.85 left to run at full speed may be all that is needed to run the spa jets, but it is hard to know without more information. Or, two of the 1.85, one for the pool and one for the jets.

Is there a problem with the existing spa pump? Does it run water through a filter or just supply to the jets?

What version Aqualink do you have? iAqualink? RS? PDA? What Rev version firmware?

You need at least Rev O to control VS pumps and preferably iAqualink with Rev R or later.

Hello all. Sorry for the delay...

There is nothing much wrong with the existing pool pump filter and Booster pump. It's is just rusted and corroded beyond belief and probably not efficient at all.

We have 8 jets around the spa. It is on an isolated plumbing line separate from the filter.

Poolman: I was actually thinking of purchasing 1. Jandy VS 1.85Hp pump for Pool. 2. jandy VS 3.85Hp booster pump for the SPA. This seems to be comparable to my existing pump HP's. And as you had mentioned, I can probably turn the RPMS lower if need be.

AJW22: I dont' know what Aqualink Version I have. is there somewhere I should be looking for this? This summer (2023), I just upgraded to the I-aqualink 3.0 RS with the full board/and antenna. I use my phone to connect to all the features. (used to have the PDA and eliminated that now)

Thank you for some advise on this.

Then your Aqualink is at least Rev R and probably T.2. That confirms your Aqualink can control VS pumps.
