Jandy Infinicolor 'Blinking' to change colors - Normal/outdated?

I had a pool installed about 9 months ago, and we're slowly learning to hate changing the colors of the lights - They do something similar to a filmstrip viewer; where something 'shifts' in front of it to make the color over the light source. Is this normal? The videos I watched make it seem a lot more fluid to change colors.

An example would be if we wanted to go blue, we'd see it blink every 2 seconds to a diff color, until it finally got to blue.
I have all the 'Infinicolor' devices/zone controllers, so I'm wondering did they just install older models of lights? Is it a calibration issue?

I'm debating upgrading to these as it seems more like what I would expect, but before I spend the ~500/light I just wanted to get some second opinions (My builder had no idea how the lights worked).

I do not know *exactly* what I have, but invoice says

I use AquaLink - It's connected to an Infini Color multi zone transformer*.... I suspect that isn't what it's called, but what I remember being explained by the electrician. I have a spa light, one pool light, and 2 jets - Wanted all 4 on unique zones. If it helps decipher what I have, directly.

Most color-changing lights use a series of on/off pulses to get to the color or pattern selected. Sounds like that is what your system is doing. Listen to the outdoor panel to hear if there is a relay clicking.

There is a relay click, yep.

So the lights aren't "fluid" like most RGB lights? Or how the videos for the newer lights make it look? For instance on a Hue bulb (common brand) I could just go to a color wheel and slide around to diff colors, no delay, no pulsing.

Correct.

Many pool LED lights use a simple ON/OFF switch protocol to change light colors. That causes the light to blink off between colors.

Even the ones you see that way work with on/off as well. They will change "fluidly" when that a "color changing" program is built in and chosen or a special controller is used.
