Issue with Calimar Pump and Jandy aqualink RS8

I’m experiencing issues with my 3 HP Calimar Pump, which has an Automation Adapter installed. I’m trying to operate the pump at two speeds: 3000 RPM (controlled by the black wire) and 1500 RPM (controlled by the white wire), as per the instructions.

The problem is that I can only get the pump to start at either 3000 RPM or 1500 RPM, but I can’t seem to switch between the two speeds. It’s possible that I’m not supplying power to Aux7 correctly, or there may be another issue. I’ve run a wire from my filter pump relay to the bottom left connection of the Aux7 relay, but I’m still encountering the same problem. The pump starts and stays at the same RPM I start it with.

Any advice on troubleshooting or wiring adjustments would be greatly appreciated! I know there are a couple of you on here with a similar setup. Thanks,

Welcome to TFP.

I don’t see any wires attached to the LINE or LOAD screws of the relay you highlighted.

Show us pictures of the wires connected to the pump automation adapter and where the other end of the wires are connected in your Aqualink. With the jumble of wires in your Aqualink you need to point out three specific wires we are discussing.

ajw22 Thanks for the response. I agree, it’s quite a mess. Unfortunately, I’m not the original owner who installed the pool or know the company that wired the system, so I’m still working on figuring out what controls what and how everything is connected. The pump does turn on, and I can switch it to one speed by jumping it, so I’ve made some progress. I’ll share more updates as I make further progress.

Not sure if it's helpful, but here's how mine is set up:

Without knowing the details of your setup - I'd start by checking the following:
-Is your Aqualink system configured to treat your pump as a two-speed pump? That would be my recommendation, if you only need two VSP speeds. Note that you don't need to purchase the actual Jandy two-speed relay - you can use standard relays, but "trick" Aqualink into thinking you have a two-speed relay and pump.
-The different wires/pump speeds on the pump automation interface have different priorities (ie if two pump speed circuits are closed, the higher-priority circuit will always override). Be sure to check these.

Also attached a wiring diagram of my setup - hope this may be helpful.

If the Aqualink relays are not working it may be a repairable with a $2 replaceable relay driver chip. See page 3 in the attached Aqualink Troubleshooting Manual.

I am not sure of the chip number. The Pentair EasyTouch uses ULN2803A driver chips that are available at any online electronics dealer such as Mouser.com and you can get an 8 pack of ULN2803A chips on Amazon.
