Is SWG worth it?

You are planning to put the SWCG before the heat pump? I am more concerned with the hydrogen gas going through the heat pump. Not sure if it is an issue, but there has to be a reason that the LAST item put in your system should be the SWCG with the flow out of it directly to the pool.

I've been rabbit hole-ing this since @ajw22 corrected my brain flatulence above. The only thing i can find for or against HP / SWG location is Jbizzle saying the gas will collect in the heater until it explodes in 2019.

Im all spun around on this now.

Note the Titanium Heat Exchanger. It is much more robust then the copper heat exchangers in gas heaters.

The warranty on the Edge is better than on the RJ, both 7 years, but 2nd year is 100% on Edge, 80% on RJ.
They don't recommend installing before heater, but had no reason why other than "we wouldn't be responsible for heater damage".
Said would function at 15gpm flow, main reason for flow switch is to make sure there is flow.

My plan: Edge-25 upgrade to Edge-40 in 2" line before heater (unless I test my 1.5" line at it's over 15gpm).
Question: Looks like Edge has it's own timer and can be wired directly to 240v (just like my VS pump). Is that correct?

Edit: I sent the question to the tech I work with at Gulfstream HP. "I personally feel that installing a salt chlorinator upstream of the heater should not harm anything."

I agree in getting the larger 40 size. I have a 10k pool and went with the Universal 40, at the time it was only about $60 more over the Universal25.

Just placed order Edge-40! Lack of Chlorine at HD (and price) pushed me over the "Edge".

We do not recommend that. Circupool seems to be the only SWG manufacture who does not recommend a timer be used as well as a flow switch.

We have seen nothing that says Circupool has magic flow switches that are more reliable then other manufactures.

SWG explosions do happen. Here is one report - Explosion near the SWG And another - Help,, my pipe exploded !!!

Just like always Tcat, there are multiple ways to skin a cat. I am going without timers of any kind because I'm committed to running 24/7. Installing a pump timer and SWG timer to never have them shut off is redundant.

If you are planning on adjusting runtime throughout the season, the the SWG timer is a really cheap form of insurance and highly reccomended.

Equally as important if you do have timers is ensuring they stay synced as seen in the 2nd post Allen linked.

Thanks. I have an unused timer already there, I'll just use it. So there's not a built in timer on the control? Seems that would be such an easy thing to add to a digital device.

Just read through this thread and see that you made the decision in favor of moving to SWCG - congrats! In regards to the statement above, I’m retired with lots of time to play and I still wouldn’t be without my SWCG!

The intangibles are...... well.... intangible. Has any of us ever walked out of Home Depot with just bleach ? Or did you grab a doorknob and some 2X4s just in case ?

That's the problem! Haven't been able to walk out of HD WITH bleach for a while!

But yeah. Come out with no bleach and 7 other things you didn't plan on buying. The SWG will be paid for in no time.
