My ladder just needs to last this year and maybe a month of next year, should I be worried about the rust on it adding iron in the pool? I could clean it up and paint it.

I had that same ladder at one time. Just remember, it's not just what you see on the outside, the inside of the poles may produce residue as well. Whether or not it's enough to cause any issues I personally couldn't say. Typically I wouldn't want to risk it, but then you are on well water right? So I suppose you are accustomed to iron control, staining, and sequestrant use. 
Modern well, iron could only come from the pump if it corroded and it's submerged so no oxygen to corrode it.
