Intellitouch to Intellicenter upgrade questions

I need to fix the board of my Intellitouch and as a result thinking of replacing my Intellitouch with the Intellicenter (using Pentair 522047 upgrade kit). I am quite handy and do most of these activities myself. I am planning to install the kit myself and have a couple of quick questions:
- Intellicenter seems to fall under Trade Grade. Can I still buy the kit online and install it myself? Does it impact the warranty and where should I buy it to get an attractive price while supporting this community and getting warranty/support?
- I remember seeing a couple of years ago a good post about step-by-step install. Is there a link to a recommended video and step by step guide to upgrade from a non legacy Intellitouch to Intellicenter.
- Any comments from those of you who have upgraded, both in terms of the upgrade/install experience and the benefits (and issues) of Intellicenter vs. Intellitouch. One of my frustrations is the lack of reliability of my Intellitouch board that I had to replace or twice (not sure if lightning or something else...).
Thanks a lot for the help.

i,

I don't think anything will be under warranty if you DIY. That said, all you need is someone with a related business to sign off on the install to get a warranty.

Cost was about $1,000 bucks, but not sure what it will be when they are back in stock. So not sure warranty is a major deal.

Anyone with a little common sense, and a basic understanding of electricity, should be able to install the upgrade kit.

The problem will be finding one.

I like these guys.. Welcome to Polytec Pools

Thanks,

Jim R.

If you buy TradeGreade products over the phone it is considered and instore sale and qualifies for the 1 year warranty if you involve a Qualified Installer.

While the majority of Pentair products are covered by a sixty- (60) day warranty, a select number of products qualify for extended warranty coverage.

Select Bundled Products: applies to purchases and qualified installation of a minimum of a pump and filter, and one or more of the following: heaters, heat pumps, control systems, automatic cleaners, lighting, salt chlorine generators or UV sterilizer**

*Note: Qualified Installer
- Defined as a licensed professional who charges a fee for his services, and possesses a business license, contractor's license and/or resale permit. Common examples of a "qualified installer" include: Swimming Pool, Home Repair or Landscape Professional; Plumber or Electrician; General Contractor; Heating and Air Conditioning Specialist.

**Note: Bundled products - must be purchased on the same invoice and installed at the same time. If any product within a bundle is ineligible for the bundled warranty coverage then all products within the same bundle will be disqualified from receiving the three (3) year extended warranty coverage for bundled products.

TradeGrade products must be purchased from a retail store (brick & mortar), pool builder or pool service company to receive a one-year, two-year or three-year warranty. If purchased online will only receive a sixty-day limited warranty. View the list of TradeGrade Products.

Ecommerce (EC) products: Products purchased from an Authorized Pentair Online Reseller (products beginning with EC-) receive a one (1) year (parts only) warranty from the date of purchase. The exceptions are: IntelliChlor cells and IntelliFlo SVRS pumps which receive a two (2) year warranty. EC products are not eligible for the bundled three (3) year extended warranty.

Thank you both for the help. The question now is where I can buy this SKU over the phone now (stock) and how to find a qualified installer in Atlanta that would install it. I understand that companies want to support their installers (and completely support it). But there are cases where supporting direct/final customers makes sense, especially when the whole industry is insanely busy!
