IC40 salt cell has no lights and 12a SCG breaker trips when starting pump in normal operation mode. I'm able to start the pump in service mode but still no lights on salt cell. The incoming voltage to the salt system transformer is ~240V. The voltage from the transformer to the salt system circuit board was fluctuating between 29.9 & 30 V. I called Pentair and they said to change the fuse. I don't have a replaceable fuse - its a 12a SCG circuit breaker. Green light on circuit board is illuminated but is dimmer after circuit breaker trips. Checked board for fried part and nothing obvious except the silver blobs (sorry don't know what these are). Does it sound like the circuit board is fried? Any other idea? Slat cell is 2 yr-1 month old and is out of 2-yr warranty.

Welcome to TFP.

I would replace the cell first. If you have the green LED light your board should be good. The bad cell is probably causing the CB to trip.

What size cell do you have?

How many gallons in your pool?

New,

Most of the time when the fuse/breaker pops it is because the cell is bad.

The cell should never have any lights in the Service mode. If it did, it means it is not wired correctly.

With the cell disconnected from the bottom of the EasyTouch, measure the output of the Surge card right at the large Red and Black wires. You should see between 30 and 40 Volts DC...

If the breaker does not pop, with the cell disconnected, then most likely, your cell is toast.. :(

Edit... Did you visually inspect the cell and see if it is full of scale???

Thanks,

Jim R.

Agreed. And with a bad cell that pops the glass fuse, the circuit breaker likely won't trip at that point. I was just pointing out where the glass fuse is. And it's a $1 Hail Mary. 😁

*** edit. I see now there's no power center. The pic sure looked like the inside of mine.

You probably qualify for the three year warranty.

What was installed and when was it installed?

If this was part of a pool build with all Pentair products, you have a 3 year warranty.

Did you register the warranty?

If it is under warranty, file a warranty claim and/or ask for a new circuit board.

Thank you so much for all the comments - best one is regarding the bundled 3 yr warranty! I haven't registered anything yet but will do so asap. I made the 2nd call to the pool installer who this time kindly admitted to the 3-yr warranty and said they would perform a diagnostic test.
