IceShadow’s pool thread 2023

I've noticed the light having issues like this last year, so I don't think it's the salt alone, for sure. Still, my CSI is consistently negative, which maybe has an effect on rusting.

I'll probably know more about the skimmer plate when I remove it. My guess is the screws are rusting underneath the plate and it's leaking out on the vinyl.

Either way, at some point I'll need to drain down below the skimmer/light/return and deal with it. I don't know if I can drain down below the light without potentially being too shallow in the shallow end, though.

I remember the inside was rather fouled when you took the light apart. Lol.

Maybe it was just time with the light gasket, niche gasket and skimmer gasket fouling at a similar rate. 🤷‍♂️

When I stopped filling so they could install the light in the new liner, there was 8 to 10 inches in the shallow end and it hadn't fully seated yet per the build pics.

I stopped at the pink tape a few inches higher than the water level here

Which was this high on the light. The couple extra inches might make it just enough.

Been pretty uneventful from a pool issues standpoint. Drought all summer but I kept it covered when not in use.

Then this morning, after a deluge last night and a lawn renovation in progress that includes an area sloping down to the pool… this.

Happy birthday to me. :D Chlorine pumped up, filter going full bore, robot helping along bottom.

Oh man. I thought I’d add some DE to the sand filter to help the pool along. Added like 6-7 cups as that’s what it took to get the filter from 14.5 to 15.5 PSI.

Within 2-3 hours it was at 20 PSI and I backwashed. Maybe I should keep doing that….

How long did you wait for the filter to rise 1 PSI? What increments did you add the DE?
In the past I knew it took 5-6 cups of DE to get the PSI rise, so I started with 4 cups and then added more one at a time. Waited until the pump lid showed no more white / cloudiness and was clear again, and then for the needle to stabilize. Maybe 2-3 minutes after each addition.

Very interesting. I wonder if that is due to the sta-rite design. I too have one and where lots of members can work with 1-2 cups, my sta-rite behaves the same...takes a bunch more.

Yeah but it shouldn’t register as low on the cell at 3200ppm. Worried that the temp sensor is already bad. I’ll add another 400ppm of salt to bring it back to optimal.
