IC40 GPM / Schedule?

Now that the Intellichlor is functioning I'll spend some time dialing it in.

What I have noticed is that if the pool runs too low say 900rpm the intellichlor reports a low chlorine level 2300ppm but if I increase to say 2000rpm or higher the intellichlor reports closer to 4000ppm. Is this behavior normal? After reading that recommended flow is 25GPM I'm going to change my schedule to set minimium gpm to 27 and adjust run times. I was thinking of starting at 4 hours @ 27rpm as my lowest speed schedule and test FC daily to see how it works out. More of a ballet than expected LOL... Live and leard.

Is it true that if the intellichlor is setup through the easytouch that changes must be made on the easytouch panel and not the intellichlor unit? Or can you adjust on either?

Changes to % setting for the IC are done on the ET panel.

Running the flow rate too low will not close the flow switch on the IC and it will report 'No Flow' by a red light. When your flow gets to the level needed, the red light will turn green. With a heater that is normally in the 1600 rpm range.

The salinity level does not change based on flow rate.

iain,

In theory, the flow should not cause a change in the salinity reading.. but this assumes that the flow is at least enough to turn the cell on... Also.. once the cell is fired up and tests the salt level, it will not test the salt level again for 12 hours unless you shut it off (remove power) and turn it back on, so that it runs the salt test again...

I would quit worrying about the salt level unless the IC40 turns on the low salt light..

I doubt that 4 hours is going to do it... In your pool, an IC40 will increase your FC by about 9 ppm... if the cell is run at 100% for 24 hours.. So 4 hours will give you 1.5 ppm at 100% output. Most pools use 2 to 4 ppm per day...

Thanks,

Jim R.

That is the behavior I noticed if flow is really low Salt reading is low when I sped it up it read high. I'll keep an eye on this. I thought it strange. My slowest setting is now 30 gpm.

I increased pump runtime to 14 hours 10 hours 30gpm and 4 hours on high enought to skim but can't remember what percentage. Will verify tonight.

Thanks for all the info and advice...
