I recently upgraded my salt generator from a IC15 to an IC60. I have a fiberglass pool, 25k gallon. (IC15 was the original cell issued by the pool company). Thankfully the IC15 finally died and I was able to upgrade. However, now I’m having trouble finding the right setting for my IC60. I started at 6% (3 lights), but quickly saw an abundance of a white soft residue, sometimes solid and flaky, and sometimes being shot back out into the pool from the returns, settling at the bottom of my pool. I changed the cell setting to 4% and not so much white stuff.

I have a 25k gallon fiberglass pool with a IC60. I run my pump from 7am to 10pm..high setting from 12 noon to 4pm.

What would be the optimal cell setting for my pool? And what’s all the white stuff? Looks like sand/ salt.

Rod,

The problem is not the cell but your CSI.. The cell is making calcium flakes.

Run a full set of tests and look at your CSI.. It needs to be slightly negative, between 0 and -.3.

Thanks,

Jim R.

It is a measure of balance toward or away from calcium carbonate. Predicts when scale may occur in the pool or in the SWCG.

You can calculate it with pool math...Link-->PoolMath

Turn on temperature and CSI tracking and it will calculate it for you.

Post a full set of results and we'll tell you what you can do to eliminate the flakes.

I downloaded the poolmath app and it will not give me a CSI reading due to missing information. I’ll have to get myself a test kit that will give me more information on my water

Are you at 6% or 60%. Big difference.

Even at 60% for 15 hours of run time, the IC60 will generate ~3.6 FC every day, which probably isn't enough for our climate. Increase your pump runtime or SWCG % and aim for the high end of the target FC range until you get a sense of your pool's FC demand.

Ok. I got my new water testing equipment…

Hardness….200
Free Chlorine…5
Total Chlorine…6
Cyanuric Acid…30-50
Total Alkalinity…120
PH….7.0
Salt….4500

While waiting for the water testing equipment, I did a little research on how to reduce the calcium in my water. I added a gallon of acid over a week period and the flakes disappeared. I still see a few but not as much as before. Appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Your TA must have been very high. When you add acid, you lower pH and lower TA. Does nothing to calcium.

Your CSI is now very negative. Stop the acid additions...your pH is on the low end. Let pH rise to 8.
While TA >80, let pH rise to 8, then lower to 7.6. Rinse and repeat.
When TA is between 60-80, the keep pH between 7.8 and 8...it should be fairly stable.

Was your CC actually 1? Tell me how you you tested CC.
Do this test tonight...Link-->Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

Try the CYA test again with these instructions, we need to be accurate.

Your salt is very high. What system do you have? Can you fill out your signature?
