How to work a pool cleaner on dedicated vacumn line

I just got a Barracuda G3 and cant seem to get enought vacumn power to run it. My dedicated vac line is tied to the main drain line.

Do i cut off the main drain? But when i do this i lose water in the viewing glass of the pump (i assume i hav some air in there)

Do i keep the skimmer line open or closed?

Do you have a clean set of filters ? are you connecting this pool cleaner through the skimmer line ?

I assume you mean that you have a Jandy valve that allows you to select between the Main Drain and the Dedicated Vacuum line?

If this is true, then I would initially set the valve so that both ports are open, also shut off the Jandy valve going to the Skimmer. Then slowly turn the first valve so that more and more water is coming from the cleaner. I suspect you will always have to have a little main drain input to keep your pump happy..

Yes, your vacuum line is completely separate from your skimmer line, but your pump is pulling suction from all 3 lines; vacuum, main drain and skimmer. To optimize (maximize) your vacuum suction, following Jim's recommendation is best provided his assumptions are accurate.
