How do YOU drain a Pentair Quad filter that's sitting on a patio deck or walkway when you're changing the DE?

Rick,

I put my last old DE filter in the garbage today... :goodjob:

I installed a large cartridge filter and will never go back to DE again..

Thankfully, both of my DE filters were installed where I could just remove the bottom plug and let it drain on the ground.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Once it's empty (+1 vote for shop vac), consider adding a drain extension with a valve for an easier time next time. You can either run a hose to a better spot, or be able to 'catch' it much better.

Yes sir. If you have enough room under there to put some type of elbow to ball valve..that's what I initially tried...after cutting 3 different 90 degree elbows I just couldn't get enough room...if you really want to pull it completely out and flip it upside down and get really good access to the drain port threads, it may be easier.

The other issue with this for me ended up being that it wasn't very well supported so I would have needed to use a flexible hose of some sort and or a quick disconnect to not have a bunch of extra hose/pipe laying around in the filter area.

Long story short, a shop vac setup for water with filter removed or whatever works super fast and super good. The smaller 6-9 gallon size works great where it'll remove all water in one vacuum tank and removes just about every morsel of DE left down in there.
