How colorless is colorless for K-2006C chlorine tests?

I'm SLAMmin' using the Taylor K-2006C for the first time. Basically my question is, how colorless does the water need to be to complete the FC and CC tests? During the FC test the water turns clear for a few seconds after adding around 30 drops but turns near-transparent pink again. When I add 20 - 30 more drops it still never gets truly colorless like the original pool water. Same when I'm testing CC.

Do I have to add as many drops necessary to get the water truly colorless for more than 10 seconds? I realized I better make sure I'm doing this right or else OCLT won't be accurate and I won't post good numbers when I need help. Plus I'll need new supplies at this rate :)

Thanks to any that can help.

You are looking for the pink color to be gone (I notice that many drops end up making the water kind of yellowish and not clear). When the pink is gone and another drop does not change anything, you are done and the last drop does not count. Then you start the CC portion of the test the same way. If the sample sits for too long it will start to turn pink again ... ignore this. You do not need to rush, but you should keep the tests moving. Adding 1 drop per second or so.

Usually it will only start to quickly turn back to pink from the FC test when the CC are high.

I'm using the 25 ml sample. Maybe I can switch to the 10 ml instead. I didn't see an explanation of why you'd use one over the other.

The pink tint is so faint you have to stare at the sample for several seconds to see it's not clear. I guess I need true colorless. I was expecting these advanced kits to give numbered readings and eliminate the guesswork. I'll add as much reagent as needed.

Thanks for the replies!

Use the 10 ml sample size. The 0.5 ppm accuracy for FC is as good as you need.

You will most likely need FAS-DPD refills before the end of summer as the K2006C does not have as much of that as the TF100.

Correction - the K2006C and the TF100 has the same FAS-DPD reagents. I apologize.

Take care.
