I’ve had water in my new pool about 45 days now. SWG is humming along. I think everything looks good. My only issue is negative CSI. Here are my numbers:

FC: 7
CC: 0
PH: 7.8
TA: 70
CH: 300
CYA: 70
Salt: 3400
Temp: 73
CSI: -.24

I know that a CSI of -.24 is ok, but in order to stay above -.30, the lowest my PH can go is 7.8. That doesn’t leave much wiggle room before it’s over 8.

So, which method is better:

1) Wait until my PH is 8.2, then bump to 7.6. At 7.6, my CSI is -.43, but it will gradually rise up.
2) Bring TA and/or CH up to give me a larger acceptable PH range.
3) Something else?

My fill water is:
PH: 9.5 (according to the City, my test stops at 8.2)
TA: 60
CH: 80

Thanks for your help!

Your pool water temperature will rise very soon and that will raise your CSI, do not stress over it.

Put 85 degrees in PoolMath and see what the CSI says. I suspect your water will be that temperature in about a month. Mine all ready is that temperature.

Relax. TFP CSI guidelines are down to -0.6. Some folks talk about -0.3 being better. Your CSI will vary as the pool environment changes. Don’t go chasing after it. Your numbers are fine.
