Let's say if there was something nasty in your skimmer be it a frog or a bird, is there a complete hook or one that attaches to a pool pole that I could use to take the skimmer out without being attacked by whatever is in there?

Looks good. Is that a permanent fixture on that one? I'm looking for one that I can move from one skimmer to the other. Nasty looking snake in my neighbor's pool the other day...!

That is more or less permanent since it screws onto your basket. I use a plastic hook for mine (it is actually a pole hanger) though as my basket won't allow the skimmer angel due to a large weight in the bottom of it. They are cheap though, get a few and bill your neighbor.
Keep in mind if you install that thing, you won’t be able to use hairnets properly on your skimmer basket.
These are awesome. Its what I use when sticking my hand in the skimmer.
