Skimmer basket broke what to do until new one arrives.

I came out after work to check my skimmer baskets and empty them. We have been have some good winds recently and lots of leaves and flowers getting in the pool from every where. One of my baskets is broke and a good chunk of it. This is allowing all the flowers to go straight to the pump basket. Is there anything I can do till what I hope is the correct replacement basket arrives tomorrow morning?

If you have one skimmer, turn the pump off until the morning.

Well too late now, but I have two sets of skimmer baskets...

I use hair nets in my skimmers, and having two sets means I can just take the dirty ones out and stick the clean ones in. Then I can take my time about cleaning the dirty ones, and install fresh hair nets..

If you have a working main drain, you could just turn off the skimmers Or just turn off the pump until your new one arrives.. One day will not make any difference.

I will probably order at least one more after the new one arrives just to have a replacement. Thanks for the quick reply. I have turned the pump off and put it in service mode so it doesn’t come back on in the morning while I am working.

a whole lot of stuff and me and most my neighbors have Bradford Pear trees in our front yard so tons of little white flower petals are making their way to my pool. I have been emptying the skimmer baskets every other day and the pump basket about every 3 day.

I bet you could get creative with some superglue and something hard/plastic. Just make sure your stop gap is bigger than the hole so it doesn't get sucked in. Maybe even a cheap plastic colander from the dollar store?

Another stop gap measure...cut out a small triangle piece toward the top of the basket and glue it/silicone it in the opening at the bottom. The basket sides' close proximity to the walls of the skimmer pot should minimize entry of debris through the cannibalized side portion of the basket(s).

Thanks for the idea. The new skimmer basket arrived the next morning from Amazon and it fit perfectly. Was back up and running before 9:30 am yesterday.

I like to say that I'd have the patience to just shut the dang pool off for a day. Y'all's know darn well my FC would be able to handle it being on #teamrunhot.

But about 12 minutes into the pool being off I would have MacGuyvered something and restored the natural order to the universe with a running pool.
