Vacuuming to waste is not “required” with any algae- the chlorine level that’s in the water is in the filter & will kill it just the same. Just clean the filter when pressure rises 25% over clean pressure. Thanks! Didn’t get past thinking of initial MA Shock, but interesting to learn there are also minimum MA levels I can consider when I eventually get back to normal maintenance. One other question about MA: Do I have to vacuum it to waste so it doesn’t keep growing? I think that’s required with green algae. I have a cartridge filter, not sure if that makes any difference.
Most with cartridge filters cannot vac to waste anyway. If there’s large amounts of debris one might wish to vac to waste if possible simply to bypass the filter altogether & give it a helping hand/avoid having to clean it as frequently - this applies to all types of debris (algae or no)
